It's a Krieghoff 16-16 - 8x57jrs, and it was made in oct. of 1935... I have slide in sleeves to shoot 20ga. ammo in it, two Krieghoff insert bbls in 22lr and 22 Win. mag,. interchangeably choke tubes, claw mounts with B&L 1.5x6 scope, color case and rust blued metal, third fastner, set trigger, swamped rib, side clips, naturally grafted English/Bastone custom stock & checkering and many more options, like sub chambers ect...





I've harvested everything from moose and bear to blk. and white tailed deer, havolina, coyotes, turkey, ducks, ptmargians and all sorts of other "food" with it...

Anyway, can you tell that i like it??? HA HA HA

Fantastic. What a versatile combination.

I used my Simpson drilling in 8x57jrs for deer season this year and did not see a deer I wanted to shoot but if was fun to carry anyway.

Unfortunately, turkey season was out and I saw 3 gobblers within 30 yds.

It all started a lot longer than 25 years ago.... My dad bought a "Shooters Bible" back in the 50's, and the first time i spotted the drillings in it, i just couldn't get over them. I was about 8 or 9 then, and even though dad loved combo guns, at over $600.00 back then, there's no way he could ever afford one!

I never forgot about those drillings and i knew some day i'd own one, it just took untill 1983 to make it happen!

I bought the one i did, because it was affordable (read "beat up") but most of all because i could see what it would "become" rather than what it "was"... I'm left handed and i needed to have a drilling that could be LH friendly!



I just stayed focussed, and went through it from stem to stern, turning this drilling into the gun of my dreams!!

So here i am 24 years later, and still using it for my number one hunting weapon! Including for this turkey i harvested this last spring...



This buck from a few days ago..



All the way back to "83" when i harvested the first big game animal with this gun...



You just have to love those 200 NP's at 2,550 MV!!

Your gun looks mechanically similar to my recently acquired Merkel made in April 34. Mine is a bit higher grade with a horn trigger and butt plate plus engraved action. I'm not too fond of the horn guard but the engraving is nice.

Would you mind sharing some of your rifle loads and where you adquired the claw mounts? I have a Zeiss 6 x 42 with rail I'd love to put on mine but could use anything that would fit.

Hi there,

My drilling had/has horn too, but i prefer rubber butt pads on my hunting guns, so it had to go... The grip cap is still the origional horn...

The load i settled on for my drilling is, RWS case, Remington primers, 200 grain Nosler Partition bullets, and H205 powder.

H205 has long since been discontinued but, this is the only load i use in this gun and i have plenty of that powder around to last me untill i die...

The bases were origional from the factory, and i had the new rings made, and the scope installed in Germany...

I just bought a new Zeiss scope, and i'm thinking of having another set of rings made, and the Zeiss installed... I wanted new optics to get better low light gathering... I'll keep the old scope to pop on to use for other times and purposes...
