I just picked up my new big horse...a 12/12/9,3X74R Fortuna (Simson) drilling with 2.5-10 Hertel&Ruess in claws.
The right extractor was notched for an insert, so I dropped in a Kreighoff 22mag I had in a drawer and tried it. At 25 yards it hit at 9 o'clock 2" without any adjustment. This one will be easy.

N E 450 No2Looks good.
The 9,3x74R is a great rifle calibre for a Drilling, IMHO
How do you like the way it handles compared to your old Sauer 3000?

You HAD to mention that, didn't you?
Those Sauer 3000 drillings do handle well, especially if you cut down the beavertail. This Fortuna will get the same treatment after the seasons are over this year.

Brandon.GleasonAll of these photos and classified adds for cape guns and drillings lately has piqued my interest. Can't you guys do this at a time when I have some expendible funds?!?!
Great looking drilling. Any specs as far as weight and length? They seem like they'd be great handling guns.

luv2safariSure...when will that be? I'll put some drillings up for sale for you.

The Fortuna/Simsons are heavy. Because they are, it is possible to use a high power rifle insert in the shot barrels. You can't do that with the Sauer 3000s and get away with it for long. The payback is a lot of added weight and less handling capability.
I'd like to get 9,3X74R left barrel insert to make this a DR drilling...9,3/9,3/12ga.

Brandon.GleasonHA! No time soon. Just bought a house and an engagement ring all in the same month! I was joking with my girlfriend a few weeks ago that if she wanted a ring (she doesn't know I've already bought it), she has to buy me something in return. I figure a combination rifle in 16ga/some nice medium bore metric rifle caliber would be a great compliment to her ring...

A double rifle drilling would be awesome. I've been meandering about Merkel's website and was intrigued to find the number of configurations you could build a drilling in. I was quite surprised to see a triple rifle drilling! Surprised that hasn't made headway with the DG hunting crowd.

luv2safariI sold my wife's rings, let the dogs starve, and live under a bridge to afford these.
You need priorities, man!

JonPNice piece....not a gun you want to walk with...but not much is going to walk away from it either!!!

Black FlyL2S,
Now that is nice!

Maybe you should send that East where I check it out for you for say, the next five months. That way you won't strain yourself lugging it up and down those big hills looking for chukars. I can loan you my old H&R single shot, it's a lot lighter and you would only need to carry shotshells.
Nice score.
Curious how long are those barrels?

Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

luv2safariThanks

They're 25".
It isn't too bad to carry without the scope, but it is heavy. A Sauer in this combo is much lighter.
