N E 450 No2My wife and I both have Sauer 3000 drillings.
They are from the late 1960's near as I can tell.
They seem to hold up to the hunting we have used them for in Texas, Idaho, Montana, and Zimbabwe.
However if you want a really rugged, near rustproof Drilling, the Blaser D 99 is the only way to go.
My late 60's vintage Simson drilling survived a week of Kodiak rain, snow, sleet, and salt water with no ill effects.

My Anson & Deely Büschenmachermeister Robert Hübner drilling in 9,3x74R 16/16 is some 90 - 100 year old, barrels made of 'Röchlingers Electro Stahl' is 100% free from rust.
The steel quality is superb.
hi
it seems drillings are been made in many different places and with a wide variety of steel quality and craftmanship and finding one with right quality and right price is not an easy tusk.

An interesting observation regarding the rust, pitting and condition of many pre-WWII Drillings.
The much finer pieces are normally well-taken care of. The fairly common Drillings were well used and often not cleaned too regularly; often exhibiting rust in the shotgun barrels and the exractors & action.
Some though, (actually MANY) were buried in oil soaked burlap to avoid destruction & confiscation directly after the war and currently bear the ensuing tell-tale Outer/Inner rust of being hidden in various locations. I know several German hunters who still proudly use Drillings with these "Battle Scars".
