Robert Hughes and Sons

Hi Guys, trying to learn more about Robert Hughes and Sons - Birmingham - photographed a Cape Gun, with hammers, and in 16 guage and 303.
When could this have been manufactured?

What was the cape guns maker? If it was made in the UK it is the first one I have ever heard of that wasn't made in Germany or Austria.

Because of the exposed hammers, and side lock along with the chambering I would think it may have been made in about the first twenty years of the 20th century (1900-1920). The fact that it is chambered for the 303 Britt is no indication that it was made in the UK. The 303 cartridge was common all over Europe for hunting.

My 4-bore double is a Robert Hughes. I have not been able to locate his serial numbers but a brief history of RH is in the English Gunmakes books. If you don't have them I can photocopy what I have and send it to you via the post. PM me if you wish.
