Indeed not working, and can't find it, but wanted to try if I could come up with 21 countries with free-ranging, wild lions:

1: Tanzania
2: South Africa
3: Zimbabwe
4: Mozambique
5: Botswana
6: Namibia
7: Angola
8: Zambia
9: DRC: Garamba NP
10: Ethiopia
11: Kenya
12: Uganda: Murchinson Falls NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, Kidepo NP
13: Chad: Zakouma NP
14: CAR: Chinko, St Floris NP?, Manovo-Gounda NP?
15: Cameroon: Waza NP, Bouba Ndjida NP, Benoue complex, Faro
16: Nigeria: Gashaka-Gumti NP?, Kainji Lake Reserve (very few apparently)
17: Benin: WAP
18: Burkina Faso: WAP
19: Niger: WAP
20: Senegal: Niokola Koba NP (sometimes vagrant to Guinea)
21: South Sudan: Boma NP, Badingilo NP, Kidepo GR, Southern NP
22: Sudan: Dinder NP
23: India

So that's 23 countries with resident, free-ranging populations.

A few countries which have lions, but possibly only in fenced parks, or maybe vagrants:
Malawi: every now and then a free roaming one from Zambia or Mozambique and possibly even Tanzania, others in fenced areas like Liwonde and Majete, both reintroduced
Congo: if that one is still around, they will reintroduce some on Bateke Plateau
Rwanda: Akagera NP, which is fenced I think, reintroduced
Swaziland/Eswatini: Hlane Royal NP, fenced.

Somalia might also have still some lions.
