HuviusI threw an action up on GunBroker.
A very good start for one inclined to take a shot at a build. Item #944394612

AtkinsonThey make the best of big bores or even a long throated 338 win to take that big Overly long
Accubond that won't work in a Mauser or mod 70 quite right..Mine were in 404 Jefferys, and 505 Gibbs IMP and a standard 500 Jefferys. They finished out beautifully. I was always a little uncomfortable beyond the 404 and 416s so hunted little with the 50s..

Didn't Guns & Ammo magazine do their .475 G & A "custom" some forty years ago on an Model 1917/Pattern '14 rifle action?
Yes they did. I think it was a P14. Re-read the article several months ago. It was in one of their Guns & Ammoo Annuals, I think around 1972-1975 era.

AtkinsonIve owned a few P-17s and their kin in the largest of big bores until they kicked the Testosterone out of me in my golden years.
They make up into the finest of slick bolt designs of any action, can't say enough about them and the beauty of the drop box design, they simply drip AFRICA!!

lowgunDoes anyone know which publication and issue describes the building of Jack O'Connor's .416 Rigby 1917?

rcraigThere's this, but it's a Brevex, not a 1917.

It was called the 475 LTD--Lott, Tanner, Dinosaur. Used 577 NE 3" brass with the rim turned off and an extractor groove cut, then necked down to accept bullets used in the 470 NE. Was built on an Enfield P14 action. Just re-read some of my G&A Annuals the other day and read the article about it. I think it was way ahead of its time.

AtkinsonI've owned a few Infields in 404, 458 Lott, 505 G. 500 J. beautiful custom rifles. Liked the 404s best. I always maintained the original hammer safety, better than the model 70 type safety for several reasons. the rest was surface ground and completely custom.

cgbachI thought that I read that O'Connor's first .416 was based on a 1917 and his second was built on a Mauser action. I would have to dig through the stacks to find the original article.
