RUSTY751909 Argentine sporterizing help
About to purchase a 1909 Argentine in sporter stock. Has original 7.65 barrel. Should get for a good price and looking to convert it to a truck gun.
Want the following done:
D and t for scope mounts -ground hump if necessary. Thinking of a 4x fixed scope.
Change original safety to scope friendly version.
Bed rifle if necessary.
Modify/replace bolt handle for scope.
Keeping in mind that this will be a functional truck gun not a work of art, who can I send it to?
Thanks

dpcdLeave barrel 29 inches long?

BobsterI'd shoot it first to determine the barrel will meet your accuracy needs. Some were re-chambered to .30-06 too. Check for stiff bolt lift after firing which may indicate setback of the lug seats. A 20 in inch barrel would work well for vehicle transport.

dpcdHe said was still 7.65 caliber.

BobsterWell, he said it was in original 7.65 caliber. A guy brought one into the shop recently and said that. It had been re-chambered to 30-06. Technically correct, it was 7.65 caliber. 7.65x63 though.

dpcdI meant he PM'd me and the ad said it was in original 7.65x53. But as you said, anything is possible.

Warne sells bases for unmodified LR mausers. Can leave the hump alone.

AtkinsonYour on the right track for the "truck" go with a 20" barrel, even an 18" wont give up much with the right powder..I had a savage 99 with a 18" barrel in 308 and loved it for saddle and truck lost 80 too a 100 fps on average fps.
