caviarar10 for deer sized game?
hey guys, I have an ar15 that I used for varmints and yote calling. I was looking at an ar10 that I like to use for longer ranges than my ar15 say 500-600 yards. Has any of you heard about the merits of an ar type rifle chambered in say s 6.5 wsm. I also have rem700 stainless long action I could use as a donor action. I'd like to be around 1/2 moa out to 600 yards. Is an ar10 up to the task?

Brian427CobraAr10's are up to the task, but I would get a DPMS over the Armalite, both shoot the same, but the DMPS cost alot less, and uses better mags that also cost less, my brother has a .308 DPMS which we shoot all the time at 1000 yards, 175smk, 44.8 RL15.

caviarhow do they shoot. I built my own ar15 w/ a kreiger 24" barrel. It outshoots most factory bolt guns. Are the bigger calibers just as easy to made to shoot well. My criteria would be around 1/2"@100 yards. Also do you know anywhere i can buy the lowers and uppers to use my own barrel?

SlamFireUnless you have unlimited funding to conduct applied research into gas port pressure measurements and the kinematics of a gas operated rifle, keeping the AR-10 in the original calibers that come from the factory would be your best option.
I have no idea how you would alter a M700 bolt action to use as a basis for a semi automatic mechanism.

Allan DeGrootI believe Bushmaster was going to offer their version of the AR-10 in 300WSM.
