Just got my first ever 06. 1957 m-70 win.
real clean sweet old rifle w/ a steel butt.
I didnt need it but couldnt pass up a deal
that good.
Question is, the load ive put together is a 200
partition @2700 fps from a 24" barrel w/rl-22.
very accurate. not to much for the old girl is it? the velocity is surprising w/ no sign of excessive pressure.
case head mics the same as factory 180 win pp's
will be used for short to medium range hunting.
200 Partition at 2700, you're covered for all ranges.
That is what I have loaded for my longer tubed .06 rifles, I have six .30-06s at present, for several years. I consider this the best load if you hunt Elk/Moose in heavy cover and hunt where bears have an attitude issue.
That is a FINE old rifle, I have owned several like it and, with a good synthetic stock installed, plus good irons, it is still among the finest choices for North America....and mine have shot "bugholes".

jerry mcdonaldMTM,
I figured inside 350 yds the bullet should still open good on med game, deer and pigs
and be a real penetrator.
Dewey,
Thanks, thats nice to know the old war-horse could be used in a pinch for bigger game as well, and as a bonus put a moody old black bear in its place.
