Custom built on 1939 Mauser

My dad is interested in builing a custom plainsgame rifle built on a great 8mmx(?)mauser action. Who does everyone here recommend?

I am in Michigan. I guess I assumed we would ship the action anywhere in US in order to get a nice rifle built.

Ask for Rob at Williams Gunsight in Davison. He has done 3 rifles for me, all three are tack drivers.

Call Walt Sherman in Tallahassee Florida. 850 878 9563. He builds excellent Mauser and Winchester based rifles. His rifles are not "show pieces," but honest, accurate working rifles. He uses syn or laminate stocks because they are stable, and he will built you a rifle that is -MOA rifle. He is also dependable, quick and reasonable. Kudude

Be more specific as to what you are trying to build (wood, synthetic, etc) and most importantly, what's your budget?

Thanks, Guys.
In the way off additional info, he hopes this will be a shootable plainsgame rifle for Africa-certainley not a showpiece, but good looking. Budget is a few thousand I guess- not anyting crazy.I would steer my dad towards a Serengeti laminated wood stock, but he might go synthetic. Does this help ?

Allen,
I don't really know much about chambering options. Can you help me with this ? Is the std military 8mm Mauser 8x57 ? And if so what would you reccomend from that?

7x57 Mauser,

Much less plumbing work required on the rifle, and it is a very capable, as well as shootable caliber.
