do you want a Weatherby?
Weatherby got a new competition going, this time you can win a custom rifle.
the downside is that you have to make a video.

(ooh...just the thought of a 7lb, Mark V deluxe with oil finish and chambered for the 6.5x55 makes me drool)

thought some of you would be interested.

I often wonder what really is involved when companies do things like this. It's like the "Enter your favorite hunting story and win a rifle" contest. People tell all their stories and they have magazine material for the next decade to print for free... or the cost of a rifle, so about $300 to them.

They might also be recruting for a sales job., spokeperson job or advertising. You win yourself a rifle and get hired as well.

I am not complaining, it would be nice to work in the rifle industry, just sometimes wonder what's behind all these contests.

I have a couple of Weatherbys. A 257 and a 30/378. The 257 is an honest 1/2" gun with Accubonds and IMR-7828 and has become by go-to rifle for Texas hunting. While I like them very much I am the first to say they are not for everyone and everything about them is exspensive. Would I like to win one, sure....but not with a video camera.

If I decided to own another WBY it would be an Ultralight in 257 or 340 (already had one in 257 and 338-378). I am one of those who believe that all WBY rifles should be chambered for WBY cartridges. No meaningful reason, just my way of thinking. Moreover, I also believe that European rounds belong in European rifles. I know I am wierd, but I am sure that I am not alone. troll Lou

I do not have a use for, nor lust for, ANY more rifles, of any make. Doesn't mean I won't change my mind this afternoon, but not right now anyway. But if it was free, a Weatherby would be fine.

I think they can and do often perform quite as well as pretty much all other huntng rifles, just like about a dozen other brands I can think of immediately wthout any pronounced effort. Further, I have owned some custom rifles done by Weatherby's staff with "classic" style wood stocks which were exceedingly well stocked and finished up.

So, sure, I wouldn't mind another Weatherby, as long as I got to pick the cartridge, action, materials, shape, and finish. What's not to like about a deal like that?

Ya know, not to sound like a sore loser, but after entering the last crock of crap contest they ran (the "dream hunt"), I won't be jumping through hoops for free stuff from them. I've already got a Weatherby; I love their guns and cartridges to death, and I'll probably buy more in the future. I think I'll just leave it at that.

Must be the bitter-clinger in me...

I certainly agree with you on the "jumping through hoops" aspect, Clayman. I wouldn't do a video for a brand new, original, 1920's .416 Rigby (or any other rifle). Things I want, I buy. If I don't want them enough to pay for them...well, they may be conveniences, but they sure aren't things I actually need.

When I think of all the semi-fraudulent "contests" used as promotions, I feel like putting a big sign up along the road which says "Don't stop here with offers of Anything "free". The only thing free in life is SHIT, and I've got plenty of that from my Congressmen already."

I am a BIG Weatherby fan - .22LR Mark XXII, .224 VarmintMaster, .257 Stainless Synthetic, 30-378 Accumark, .416 Euromark and .416 Custom Safari.

Having said that, not interested in doing a video just to get one.

I am a weatherby guy!

I have a few.

My dream Weatherby would be a 300 Weatherby sub-moa accumark with a really exotic looking fiberglass stock.
