TumbleweedSako in .340 Wby
Yesterday I came across a new-in-the-box L691 Sako in .340 Wby. I didn't know they were ever chambered for that (although I recall seeing one in .300 Wby.) I'm wondering about the scarcity of this particular combination. Does anyone know how common they might be? This one is a 'Hunter' grade, and I notice it has two cross bolts in the stock.

dan belisleThe caliber was listed in their catalogue for quite a while, Tumbleweed, but I've never seen one in the flesh, so to speak. There can't have ben that many of them produced. - Dan

TBTIt was imported in the Hunter grade series and retailed for around $1000-1200. It was also imported in the 75-Deluxe, but few ever made it to the US.

Dr. LouI had an AV Hunter in 300 Wby. It was a beautiful rifle but I prefer a 26" tube for Weatherby rounds. The L691 in 300 and 340 Wby come with 24" barrels - might as well have a 338WM. The new model 75 comes in 300 and 340 and have 26" barrels.

TBTStonecreek,
I can't remember when they stopped making the TRG-s in that caliber. The last catalog that I have is 2000 and it wasn't being mfg'd or imported at that time.

StonecreekI bought one used in about 1998, so it was presumably made that year or before. I never liked the Weatherby freebore and radiused shoulder, and whether it was a real problem or imagined and caused by prejudice, I didn't have very good luck with accuracy in that gun. So, when I found a like-new .338 in the same gun, I traded. By the way, the guy who bought the .340 claims that he never saw a gun as accurate!
