Thomas JonesIn the back corner of my safe !
I decided to use somthing other than my .338 win Elk hunting this year, so, I dug deep into my safe and pulled out my model 70 classic wood and blue steel 7mm STW. I had prety much forgottn about her since I sold the scope it used to have. I mounted a Vari X 3 3.5X10 loaded up some 160 grain acubonds over 79 grains of RL-25, and went to site her in.
3 Shots into .90 an inch high at 100. velocity is 3250.
I shot off the hood of my truck with the for stock rested but the but stock not rested.
I am sure the group would have been a bunch better off a bench. Really dumb of me not pay more attention to this rifle.
I have shot the tightest groups I ever fired out of this one. I did .17 for 3 at 100 and I (call me a liar if you want) once bustd a clear plastic thumb tack at 100 yards off a bench. I was having a good day and I only had one round left, I put the cross hairs 1.5 inches below the tack and it dissapeered when i pulled the trigger.
Anyway it, along with my 45/70 and 35 Whelen are going Elk hunting a week from monday. ...tj3006

Thomas JonesMoose hunting !
WOW ! I herd there are a few moose in oregon now , migrated across the columbia , from washington or over the blue mountains from idaho.
Probly will never be a tag issued here till i'm long in the grave, but you never know.
The Whelen is good, i picture vremont as heavy forest country, if I am right you are well armed for the hunt.
i would like to bild a .358 Norma one day...tj3006
