Great article on 9.3x62 Mauser
For those who have not seen it here is a link to a solid article on the 9.3x62 I find very interesting and which makes me really want one.

Thanks for that Befus,

I purchased a 9.3 for simply all the reasons stated in that article. It is a find round and you can get it in a cz 550 lux with nice irons at a good price.

I am loading 270 gr speers at the moment but I would liek to try the 250 gr woodleigh. If I do a plains game hunt one day that is what I would use I think.

A great testament to a great round.

A lot of the same could be said for the 6.5x55 and 7x57 (hmmm, what is it about these metric rounds?) - not spectacular ballistics, just performance.

I'd almost bet the 9.3x62 in the photo is a 9.3x64....

The rifle is my pre 64 M70 I had re-bored and chambered to the 9,3x62 from an 06. Added were barrel band swivel and banded front sight. I used the 270 Speers which were too friable for anything much bigger than a duiker on a plains game safari in RSA this June. Penetration on the zebra shoulder for the first shot was about 4" if that. Velocity was about 2350 fps. I also used the 250 Hawks on two animals which performed well, wishing only I had use the 285s. I chronographed the Hawk 285s later when I loaded some, and 58 grs of RL 15 was running at 2393 fps,and a touch on the hot side, so will reduce to about 57 grs.

I have a Husky that was rechambered from the 57mm potato lobber. It has a classic Scandinavian diopter peep sight courtesy of a Norwegian friend and, once I get the front sight sorted out, it will be scheduled for a piggy hunt here in California. My next safari will be a two-gun trip with the .318 WR and the .404 but . . . in another three years I will be back again. Maybe the old reliable farm horse will be all I need!
