That 25" barrel looks long! Looks like you have quite the hammer.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

Randy ----- The rifle looks great, let us know how it shoots. I have two and neither will ever be for sale, according to my son and grandsons. In my opinion it is the perfect Alaska chambaering. Good shooting.

Ok, I just got back from the 100yd range. It did ok. I was shooting 280gr Swift bullets and 86gr of H4831sc. I still have a lot of work to do to get it shooting just right. Will be tring RL-22 next.

280gr bullets at 2856fps?!?! WOW! What a beast! I'm sure she'll be a tackdriver with a little experimentation. Looks great.

Randy, i had my 360 Imperial out last weekend and tried some 310 Woodleigh's. 84gr of RL22 gave me 2650fps. I've been thinking about some 280 swifts.... Wink

my 338 win is going to be rebarreled to a 358 norma when I ware out that barel. you'll have to let us know how you like it after you hunt something with it.
I want a 358 norma or STA. will the STA fit in a normal length action that fits the 338 Win?

Ol Bull is your 360 Imperial 1:12 twist? My STA is 1:14. I just about got a box of the 310gr Wooldleigh.

gohip 2000, Yes my rifle stared its life as a 300 Win mag. All was needed was to just rebarrel.

It's a 26" Krieger 1 in 12"...your 1 in 14" might do a little bit more.. Smiler

.....That is VERY GOOD velocity for a 280 gr bullet ... I was getting 2800 from my 338 Rum with H1000 , I may have done better with RETUMBO RL 22 didn,t do as well for me ...Mayby RL25 would have worked better........H 4831 sc is an Extreme powder so it would be velocity stable in cold weather ... Mayby not identicle , but above 2800 .... Have you tried moly tumbleing your bullets ... it reduces the amount the barrel heats up which is nice when burning lots of slow powder ....I think its stupid that Barnes dropped the 250 X in .358 from their bullet line up .....Thats a very nice rifle Randy ....Nice looking too ...

Randy ----- RL-22 is by far my most accurate powder for both my STA's. One of my barrels is faster than the other and it gets me 2950 fps with the 270 grain North Fork (I managed to have 5 boxs when Mike shut down) and the 280 grain Swift A-Frames. I used the North Forks in Africa for plains game and they were very impressive according to my PH. With the lighter bullets, 225 and 250 grainers, I get some fine accuracy and speeds that will amaze anyone. The highest speeds are not necessarily the most accurate but overall with bullets from 225 grains up in .358 caliber getting from 2850 fps and up are real takers of game. My son and I have taken many Bull Elk and I have taken Kongoni, Zebra, Impala and many Deer (the bullet does the gutting for you) with stunning results. With those bullet sizes to pick from and the Woodleigh 310's you can see why I say it is the perfect Alaskan chambering. Good shooting.

phurley5, I think your right the STA is the perfect Alaska chambering! Mine will shoot 225gr TSX 3200+fps with 93gr of RL-19. This load is hard on brass and ME! So I shoot 91gr of RL-19 with the 225gr bulles at 3100fps. RL-22 and the 280 A-Frames may just be the ticket! Wink

Randy , are you necking up 8mm Rem mag brass....?? I agree with Phurley on it being a perfect Alaskan Round , and rifle .....

Yes I neck up 8mm mag brass and fire form it.

...that weighs less than my Remington 600!! On an electronic fish scale that I had checked with a certified 10# weight the 600 goes 8 pounds 2 oz. with Uncle Mike's Mountain sling, 1.5-5 Leupold scope, Weaver base and Leupold QD rings.

If I ever needed a long range medium-heavy game rifle that would be it... .35s are the Boss...

Randy:

Nice rifle in a great caliber. I was puttining the parts together for one when I stumbled on a used .358 Norma at a price that could not be turned down. I am working with the 225-grain TSX bullets in my Norma.

Lookin' great! I used to really want a rifle in that caliber for its long range knockdown power. Let us know how it does on game please.

no, the .358 STA is based on 8mm Rem Mag(which is a out blown .375 H&H in its full length)

......I think the 358 STA will go faster than the 338 RUM .....
I make .416 Rem Mag brass from 8 mag brass ... Have to anneal it first ........
I,m thinking about haveing a CZ barrel that is now a 300 Win mag re bored to take the 358 STA ..... I could set my Lott up as a switch barrel ... ??

Gentlemen ----- If anyone is interested in additional information on the .358 STA, I have an excellent article by Layne Simpson, who with Kenny Jarrett built the first STA. I shows loads and how the brass can be produced. I will attempt to post it here later, my computor skills are very limited. There are several brass companys that produce the brass now with the STA stamp on it. When I first started with mine it was not available. Just off hand "Bell" is the only one I can remember, there are probably more. Good shooting.
