Recommend a gunsmith for re-barrel, etc

I am looking for some imput in selecting a gunsmith to re-barrel my M70, blue print the action, and put back together.
I was looking at Hill Country, but they have a 6 month turn around time.
While I'm on the subject....will a re-barrel blue print definetly improve accuracy, and what can you expect to gain?

Wolfgar, Unless you have decided on another barrel manufacturer, consider Hart rifle barrels right there in New York. Look on the net for their web site, and they can answer your questions only too well.

I will say that the caliber you choose and the ammunition you choose to shoot will make a considerable difference in how the rifle performs. Not to mention the choice of scope and mounts etc...

I've never heard anyhting bad about them. I had a REM 600 rebarreled to 338FED and it shoots subMOA. Great work at reasonable prices. Turnaround was only 6 weeks but he had the barrel already on hand.

anyway,Call Clarence Hammonds at the link above and he will rebarrel your rifle for you.I've know him for about 25 tears and nothing but good comes out of his shop

Had HART do a 300wm barrel on a Ruger M77II that was a 7mm.

They trued the action, bedded it, channeled out the stock and trued up the lugs.
Just getting some cases fire-formed (just throw the powder and use bulk bullets) it will shoot!!!
(can't wait to try a real load)

If I member right it was a little over $600 back to my door.
They did a great job and I would recommend them to anybody!!!!!

284, Your advice is a 1st tier quality product, but the R.W.Hart link is for the cousins not the barrel producers. Which are in Lafayette NY

I use John Lewis at Carolina Precision & have got 1 month turn around if I supply all the parts. Lilja has a good selection of in stock barrels & midway stocks a number of 1st class barrels. They currently have a deal in Lilja & Shilen .338 barrels in their inventory reduction section & a $20.00 off deal on $250 orders.

I had a rifle accurized at HCR. They are great to work with. If your problem is 6 mo turn around, what is the date in 6 mo? Do you really need your gun between now and then. It takes that long because they are good and they do a great deal of business.

Send it to them, forget about it (I know impossible), and in 6 mos you have a gun that you will be very happy with.

I will be a repeat customer to HCR.

One thing to remember is they have to order the barrel. I had my barrel for about a year, before I took the rifle in. HCR had it back to me in about a month. If I remember right it was about 3 month or more before I recieved the barrel from Lilja, but I was not in a hurry so it did not matter.

They did an excellent job, I am giving the rifle to my son for gradution this spring.

I will catch some flak with this, but if the factory barrel shoots good and is a caliber you would like to keep. If you do not blue print the action, you can have a poor man's switch barrel. I would not do it, have known people who have and are happy with result.
