bluecollarDoes anyone shoot a 338 WM improved?
I going to have a rifle built and my smith mentioned I might want to go with a 338 improved. I've never heard of one and wondered if anyone here had any experience with one. If so, what barrel length and what kind of velocity are you getting.
I wondered if I would lose any velocity I would gain by going with a 24 inch barrel vs. a 26.
Looking forward to hearing the input

Jerry/AKI think your 'smith is recommending the .338-06 Ackley Improved, which is the '06 case necked up to .338 and with the case taper ruduced to minimum and shoulder angle increased to 40 degrees. I think this because I've never heard of an improved .338 Win Mag and can't imagine how it could be "improved" in any significant way.
The .338-06 is a great cartridge. What do you plan to hunt with your new rifle?
