Simon Steyn170gr RWS H Mantels
Afternoon Gentleman,
Any opinions on the RWS H Mantels? Have a 100 of them in 7x64 170gr. Planning on hunting a BIG Blue Wildebeest soon on a friends farm. That bull has been teasing me for long enough.
Thanks,

Im probably wrong but isnt the H mantel like a Nosler partition? If so it should do very well, especially if its accurate in your rifle. A 170gr 7mm bullet has a good S.D. so it should work well, good luck.

Marc_StokeldI have no experience with them, other than pulling hem from factory ammo o get to that wonderful RWS brass. However, I have read Saeed talking about them in terrible terms. He has killed more game in the field than most of us and I personally am taking his advice on the H mantles.
And BTW-the way I understand it, the H matel has a fold in the jacket to create a pseudo-partition. This makes it vastly different than the Nosler Partition. The RWS bullet can keep folding back to the base when it impacts gamer, whereas the partition is a full division between the front and rear cores
before i used this bullet I would thoroughly search this site and read some of Saeed's experiences

PatagonHunterHello Simon,
I have a long relationship with the 7mm 173 grs H-Mantle bullets. Both in my two 7x57 and in a beautiful Mannlicher-Schoenauer GK long rifle in 7x64.
I use this bullet in factory RWS ammunition and in my own reloads. Mainly in BIG Red Deer and BIG Wild Boar here in Patagonia.
For me, it is THE BEST 7mm bullets I have used in this two cartridges. Period. The muzzle velocities are in 2600 (7x57) and 2700 (7x64) fps. And I have killed Red Deers from 100 to 250 meters. And for different angles. I NEVER could recover a bullet! ALLWAYS leaves a small exit hole but the damage inside have been incredible! The highest % of one shot kills and quickest falls of all the bullets I have used. I don`t know how this bullets would perform at higher velocities but, in the 7x57/7x64 is a GREAT bullets.
Good luck!
