londonhunterAnybody with ACTUAL reloading or field experience using 6.5 x 65
Hi friends
Look for somebody with ACTUAL field and reloading exprience with 6.5 x 65R
It will be factory barrel hence 1 in 8 twist and no other choice
I plan to use 140 grains for everything
Can you kindly share your experience ?
Trajectory over 300 metres
Your preferred powder choice?
Have you tried to form case from 3006 rather than buying RWS offering ?
It will be replacing a 6.5 x 55 which I have used for 04 seasons
There is mention from previous threads in 2006 about difficulty in reloading. Have you encountered them ?
Have you regreted your decision in this caliber?
Thanks

seafire/B17GJust about anything works well in a 6.5 x 55...
much like a 223, it isn't a finicky round..
myself, I prefer mid range powders...
IMR 4064, IMR 4895, RL 15..
I use an even charge of 40 grains with a 120, 129 or 140 grain bullet of any of the above powders..
due to aerodynamics of the 6.5 bore bullets, they are very flat shooting and don't need max velocity to accomplish it..
and in fact most manufacturers of bullets make their 6.5 bore bullets with the Swede in mind..
they will certainly take any wild game that roams around in the British Isles..

I checked the attached link to RWS and the ballistics seem to be the same for the 6.5x55 and 6.5x65R with the same weight bullet(8.2g/126 grains). I don't see how you could make cases from .30-06 as it is not rimmed and is too short. As long as you have the proper dies I can't envision that reloading would be problematic.
