my cz 550 in 9.3x62 should arrive any day now. so it's time to call on those of you with more knowledge than me...again. i've read somewhere that it's possible to make 9.3x62 cases from 30-06 brass. if this is true, can somebody explain how to do this or let me know if there is any reason why it is not a good idea. thanks...bud

The .30-06 cases are undersized for the conversion.

Its much easier using 35 Whelen brass. Graf confirmed that they will start shipping Graf 9.2x63 brass out to customers Oct 3rd.

If Graf's is shipping in October, don't bother. At the same time, you should probably form a few just to make sure you know how. Search this board and you'll find plenty of information on forming 9.3x62 cases.

Yes it is possible. Start with new -06 cases (you'll lose less that way) and swage up. Someone mentioned using 35 Whelen brass instead, which I think is an even better idea, but it wasn't available when I did this. Anyway, once the neck is opened up, use 9.3 X 57 or 9.3 X 62 starting loads; and fireform. After that you'll have usable brass, but I would keep the loads low, compare the two cases side by side and you'll see why. I never had a problem with any any of the cases I made (except occasionally losing one in the process, necks would collapse), but I do feel better using factory brass for this. The base of the 06 case is smaller then the 9.3 X 62, so it swells quite a bit there. Never had a problem there though, it just looked weird. FWIW - Dan

I full length resize 06 brass trim to maximun 9.3x62 length use a load a couple of grains under starting loads and fireform the cases end up a touch short of trim length but i haven't lost any cases yet
I will not load the formed cases to hot I just use them untill my lapua cases arrive
