minneshooterWeatherby R. O. Y. ??
Need any info about Weatherby's "Rifle of the Year" Vanguard. The stock looks similar to the sub-moa stock, but I don't know for sure if it is. Anyone know how else it is like or differs from the other Vanguard models?

HeatOoops... Should have caught this a few days ago... Minneshooter, the stocks look similar but that's where it ends... The sub-MOA stock is a composite stock and the R.O.Y. is their injection molded stock... Also the sub-MOA is pillar bedded... For the dollar difference I would probably go with the sub-MOA...

minneshooterThanks Heat......yes, after looking more carefully, I discovered that there is a substantial difference between the sub moa and the ROY. I actually ended up picking up a little Remington SPS stainless for about the same money as the ROY and I am thrilled with it. Seems to be very accurate for the money. Got it on paper at 50...moved to 100yds. Shot 2 more and corrected so that I was about 1.5" high. The next 3 rounds cut a 3 leaf clover. Have done it several times since......all for just under $500.00 !!

HeatHey Dale, nothing wrong with that choice, what cal is it chambered for...
I might be a Weatherby fan (don't rip me a new one here guys) but I look at the Mark Vs versus the Vanguards... Nothing wrong with the Vanguards but they are a 2 lug design compared to the 9 lug in the Mark V action....
Anyway, sounds like it shoots real well for you so enjoy...

minneshooterHeat,
It's chambered for 7mm-08. Seems to like the 140 gr Fusion ammo. It will make a nice little whitetail round.

45/70 Govt.Pawn shop find here --
Weatherby Vanguard, 30-06, 85%, Leupold VX-II, 3 - 9x 40mm scope. $367 out the door. I expect it's "older" -- ten years, give or take.
Not looking for a "concours" gun. And the stuff I'm shooting is bigger than MOA.
I got a good deal on a servicable gun. Something I can drag out in the woods and not worry about mud, rocks, snagging on brush.
