Well, I decided to go with the 7mm Remington Magnum for a variety of reasons. What I would like to know, what is realistic speed I should expect in a 7mm Rem Mag, shooting 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in a 26 inch barrel. Gun will be custom Remington 700, Broughton barrel.

Shucks, I get 3100 with the 160 Nosler Partition in a 24 in. bbl. YOu should be able to get 3200 with 150s.

Is that estimate for factory ammo, like Rem Scirocco's, or handloads?

What powders works to get 3200 without excessive pressure? I use H870 with 160
and 175 grain bullets. Great accuracy and velocity.

I used to use nothing but Norma MRP. Once I ran out of that I've been using RL22. Seat the bullet out as far as your chamber and magazine will allow to increase your net case capacity.

Correct!! A lot of current manuals give 7mm Rem Mag. loads that essentially make a 7X57mm out of the 7 Rem. Mag. It may be that there are indiviudual rifles which are not safely capable of anything more, but most are!

Just develop your loads carefully, and use slow powders like RE 22, H4831, and IMR 7828. You will probably not be disappointed.

I could get 3200fps in my 26" Ruger #1 w/ RL22 under a 150gr NP. I also like IMR7828, you may try H4831 as well for 140-15gr bullets.

My box stock sendero in 7mm rem mag goes 3200fps with federal premium 150gr NBT's and NO pressure signs. Brass is FINE upon reloading.

I would look for a harmonic at 3100-3200fps and go with it.

BTW I am using H-870 with the 160s, too kk alaska. 80 grains to be exact.

I get +/- 3120 fps w/ 150 NBTs in a 24" tube and I'm as warm as I want to go.

I'am with boilroom. 160gr. partition/R22=3155fps from a early Rem. 24in. ss barrel that still has a good throat. Pedro

I could generally count on a chronographed 3100 fps. with 150 gr. bullets, 3000 fps. with 160 gr. bullets, and 2900 fps, with 175 gr. bullets out of a 7mm Rem. Mag. with a 24" bbl. Some extra-fast rifles would had between 50 and 100 fps. to those numbers, but those loads were at the absolute max, and likely too hot to really be safe.........
