Gidday Lawndart, just a quick thank you for the reamer drawing. I purchased 40 cases the other day, sectioned one with the dremel and using Load from a Disc calculated the case capacity.
Just on 77 gn of water, which is a 10% increase on the 35 Whelan case.
thanks again

You're Welcome!

I am looking into making the 9,3 x 66 Sako brass from basic 30-06 brass.

If that works I'll publish pictures and instructions. It will have the correct headstamp.

PS Those curved lines on the scan are dark hairs from my German Shorthair Pointer who is always helpful around the office.

I was unaware that the Sako round has a standard 0.473" bolt face?

Is that true?

Yep,

See why it is such a no brainer to do? It is just a 9.3x62 that makes use of your entire magazine length.

Despite what the "official" dimesion are in books, all the manufacturers use 30-06 basic brass to form all these similar rounds.

That is why American made 6.5x55 brass has the same head diameter as 30-06, even though it is supposed to be almost .010" larger.

Boy do I hear you. One problem with the Sako 85. They use a detachable (droppable) magazine that is shorter than a hinged magazine so they have shortened the cartridge overall length from 87mm to 85mm, which kind of defeats the purpose. The factory ammo uses double base powders to make velocity.

A Mauser with a slightly opened up, or aftermarket mag box would handle the chore nicely. I am going to use an older Sako. The L61 and 691 models (A-III & A-V) have magazine boxes that are 92.5mm long.

That Sauer idea sounds like a very good one. If you can send a barrel down to Jim Kobe he could use my reamer on it while it is fresh.

I believe it will work with the 30-06/8x57 Mauser sized bolt head.

If you have to buy a new rifle, the Sauer will be better than a Sako Smiler.

I'll measure my factory brass tonight.

I will check that tonight Alf.

We are both night owls (insomiac?) so I know you will be up long enough. My last good night's sleep was the night before the day I started my residency.
