Gun Broke in half, and another queston...
Well yesterday my brother got my gun out of his truck, and I here this WHACK!!! The sling screw stripped out of the stock and the barrel slammed into the concrete busting my 7mm in half... Complete accident, but I was a little distraught Wink

My question is this: I have the chance to buy a used gun with a little less than 250 rounds through it. Where does that stand on the scale of barrel's life? Does it have a healthy life ahead or is it on its last legs?

Thanks,
Seth

250 rounds is nothing.......barrel life is often measured in thousands and depending on the chambering up to 10,000

Tell us about your 7mm.....maybe it can be salvaged.

With 250rds through it you might be lucky enough that it's about broken in. I'd clean the bore and make sure it wasn't mistreated but 250 rds is just enough for it to start shooting right........................DJ

I'd rather buy a gun with 250 rounds through it than virginal (for a factory barrel).

No magnum rifle should have more than 100rds through it.Chances are it stopped shooting and the owner put it for sale.

Shootaway! Surely you mean 10,000 rounds not 100.

Ask to see some of the targets fired during the 250 rounds.

Is the owner bored with the gun, not really need it, one of those who is always trading guns, or will the gun just not shoot.

250 is a pretty low count

Get the gun. How in the world did your rifle break in half falling out of your brothers hands? What kind of rifle was it?

I would make sure it did not damage the end of the barrel where the bullet comes out, the 'CROWN" and also, that the barrel did not hit so hard as to bend it. That should be easy to visually check.

I assume the stock broke? That can be fixed quickly, changed out rather. Buying a new stock for YOUR existing rifle may be better than buying the used rifle you talked about, but if you need an excuse to buy another one......

I asume !
Perhaps incorectly that when you say your rifle broke in half, you ment the stock ?
Please tell me the steel barreld action are fine, and if not PLEASE PLEASE tell wht kind of rifle it is,(or was).
As for your 250 round purchase, it should be fine. Depending on a few things. If its a 7mag and some knuckle head shot rounnd after round without letting it cool, you could have a problem.
Its not so hard to restock a rifle, depending on the make and model.
if its a comon make an after market stock is easy to come by...tj3006
