7mm Weatherby vs 7mm Remington
Hello.

I am in the market for a new rifle and am juggling between a MK V Accumark or a MK V Ultra Lightweight. I have expirience with the 7mm Remington and 7mm-08 Remington and have been impressed by their performance.

I know Weatherby brass is more expensive to load and I am ok with that. If anybody has any pet loads for the 7mm Weatherby and what kind of speed they are getting from that I would appreciate that.

So which one is better ? Thanks in advance.

They are nearly identical in performance......but the Rem Mag will cost half the price and is available almost anywhere.....you'llbe hard pressed to find a box of 7mm Wby anywhere !

Add the 7mm Dakota to your thinking.....its a great chambering.

7 Rem Mag will serve you well. Forget the Roy.

Forget 'em both and find yourself a 7-STW. You won't be disappointed.

I went with the Rem Mag, because I know that I can find shells anywhere in the US.

Though I am tempted to get a Dakota barrel. But the wife would kill me.

I shoot a Sako L61 in 7mm Magnum and it provides 3260 with 150 grain Nosler and 3050 with the 175 grain Woodleigh. Not sure the Weatherby does much better. I think the challenge with the Rem Mag is to get good handloads working. Factory loaded the Weatherby appears clearly superior as the Rem is underloaded.

If you ae going to buy a Weatherby rifle, go ahead and get a Weatherby cartridge. Just makes more sense to me.

Like mentioned above, if you are going to shoot factory ammo the Weatherby ammo will be more expensive and will be harder to find. BUT, factory loaded 7mm Rem Mag is quite anemic compared to facotory loaded 7 WBY Mag ammo.

If you are going to reload, you will find that you can improve on the Remington's ballistics by a 100 fps or so when loading the Weatherby 7mm Mag.

My own 7mm Wby Mag handloads use a max load of IMR 7828 and push a 160 grain Nosler Partition or 160 grain Barnes TSX at a little more than 3150 fps. (This is a 24 inch barrel.)

I think that the 270 and 7mm Weatherby cartridges are generally overlooked, but are great performers.

I am also of the opinion that if you buy a Weatherby rifle, it should be chambered for a Weatherby cartridge; however, I could make an exception with the 7mm - both are two peas in a pod and the Remington version is better than half the cost.

In the rifles you are looking at you will get a 26" bbl with the Bee and a 24 with the Rem. That being said, you will most likley see significant gains handloading the Bee. If you do indeed handload, once the brass is bought the cost is the same to shoot and you do get very good brass when you buy Weatherby. I like the ULW and the Accumark rifles and for the cost of the rifle it's nice to get every ounce of performance you can from the cartridge.

You can use 7RM brass for the Weatherby. Just size and load. Will be a tad shorter, but will fireform out and work fine. Go with the Wby!

I shoot a Vanguard in .257 Wby Mag. I use 7mm Mag brass and resize it to .257 Wby Mag and it works great. So, if you like the Wby, go for it and resize affordable brass, as has been mentioned.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

I'd go with the 7mmRemington. I own one and it preforms as well as can be expected.
I shot my bore with it so far.

I vote for the Remington. The deer or elk won't know the difference, but your wallet will!

I'm new to the 7mags myself, been shooting a 280 for lots of years.
I recently aqcuired a Savage 110 Tactical with a 24 inch bull barrel.I have a load with a 160 Nosler Accubond and RL22 that I've chronied at 3170FPS.It shoots very well,under 1/2 MOA at 100 yards.
I have also aquired a Win Mdl 70 with a 26 inch barrel that I'm still doing load development work with. I have shot the above load through it and it also shoots 1/2 MOA,yet I ran out of time and didn't chronie it.

I don't know that the difference in velocity between the Rem Mag v the Wby is going to be worth the difference in cost.YMMV.

I'd say buy what ever you want. The remington is a little cheaper and it preforms very well
but know that.

I just cant see where anyone would need more power than the 7mm Rem mag offers. It will shoot well farther than most folks are capable of.As far as the Webby cals for Webby rifles go I agree but I would go for the .340 myself.
