338 Edge
I just finish building this rifle and on Thursday I will fly with it to Alaska to deliver it to the owner. For those of you that like long range rifles here is what it is.

Kreiger fluted 30", 9.3-1 twist barrel
Defensive Edge brake
Manners stock, pillar bedded
Stiller Predator action
Jewell trigger
Wyatt mag. box, 3.850 in.
Night Force 5.5-22 scope
Night Force mounts with level and cosine
Remington bottom metal

The first five shot, hundred yard group was .385. My son shot a 3 shot group that was in the 2's. After dialing in 7 min. the 700 yard gong took a beating. It's a joy to shoot.

300 gr. Sierra match kings, 92 gr. of H1000 and a mag primer.
2830 fps.

Just had to post this as it all went so well. BTW the guy in Alaska doesn't know he is getting it. It's a retirement gift. This should be fun..........Tom

Does every rifle you build get personally delivered?

Only if there is hunting or fishing there. So far I have delivered 3, Texas, Alaska and Namibia. I will be delivering one next month to a Dr. in Namibia. On this Alaska trip I will be Herring fishing in Sitka Sound. It's a wild ride. We will probably catch 400 to 600 tons. It's bumper cars with 58 ft. purse seiners. My job will be video recording, so no one runs over our net. Lots of whales, sea lions and seals and great people.

This .338 Edge is the only rifle I ever built that wasn't on some sort of a budget. It was fun to not make any compromises.........Tom

I really think that you should try it in Afganistan before sending it to alaska! Big Grin

I would love to. Don't think I can get a free trip there at my age. But you could haul one over. Big Grin

That is the same exact load that I shoot in my 338 Lapua

I just got back from delivering the gun. It was a complete surprise to the man that it was for. To say he was happy would be an understatement. I don't think I have ever tried to answer more gun questions in 3 or 4 hours. It was a blast.....Tom

At the risk of starting a caliber war -- thoughts on the 338 Edge vs the Lapua??? -- trying to make up my mind on which way to go

OMG!-- my bow is "pull-push feed" - how dreadfully embarrasing!!!!!

Which ever one you want.

Edge is a little cheaper to build and feed and according to many slightly faster( 50-80fps)

A Rem 700 in 338 RUM needs a re-chamber and a longer mag well.

And now Savage has an accurate 338LM of the shelf.

You could be a tad different and build a 338LM Improved and be faster yet--with supposedly great case life.

Rather than building this time, I took the lazy way on this calibre group--a lightly used Blaser Tac-2, a real pleasure, with no constrution time.

338LM

(also picked up a .308 in a Blaser LRS-2, both accurate rifles and no lathe and bench time for me, gettin' truly lazy in my old age Roll Eyes)

I was guessing that, don't know if they even make the Tac Blaser in EDGE...I like the idea of the LM, how heavy is that rig?

It's nice to have a rig shoot as good as you like without all the steps in between--prolly not lazy so much as impatient Wink

No Edge Offered by Blaser.

The 308 with the Leupold 10X and Harris and full mag weighs a little less than 14#

The 338 with the 12-42X NightForce and Harris goes about 15#

roger that, I was guessing 15 zone on the LM, sounds like a hell of a rig!

The .338 Edge shown weighed 11.2 lbs. without bipad or ammo. That was the main reason for the Manners stock. Once I had the parts the build took about a week.......Tom

I just got a report from the man that now has the gun. He set a target up at 750 yards. His first shot was on target 1" to the right. The ballistic charts I gave him must have been correct......Tom

Do you think the new owner might try Berger's new 338 bullet?

Don't try the Bergers if you'll be pushing them real hard! They have a big nose-slump issue in my 338 Lapua Improved.

As for the caliber war, I'd go 338 Edge or 338 Lapua Improved. It's easy to form cases, and the 338 Lapua Improved gains about 12% case capacity!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.
