Skyline26 Nosler
I was just gifted a custom rifle, built on a Rem 700 stainless action, chambered in 26 Nosler. I think it should be a good rifle for reaching out and touching whitetail on the far side of hay fields on our farm.
Hey! The 26 Nosler is a small bore! Wrong forum!
But since it shoots the magical .264-caliber bullets, it thinks it is a medium bore, just like the 6.5 Creedmoor gets passed off as a medium now and then.
Biebs is notorious for this!
Are you going to handload for it?
I have seen estimates of anywhere from 500 to 1000 rounds before the barrel is shot out.
Find one good load as directly as possible, and stick with it.
Your rifle ought to last a lifetime of hunting ... as long as that does not include prairie dog hunting in the usual fashion.
I face the same situation with my 26 Ripmoor (.264/.375 Ruger).
Nosler claims 93.0 grains H2O capacity for the 26 Nosler, though some have measured it at 95.4 grains H20.
I claim 95.9 grains H20 for the 26 Ripmoor, and I am the world authority on that!
I am getting ready to load some starting loads, so have checked the Nosler manual and the Hodgdon manual.
There are some discrepancies already noted in my mind.

I must say that QuickLOAD estimates seems to agree more with the Nosler manual.
Maybe Hodgdon uses lawyer-approved, tighter pressure barrels?

SkylineOops! First thing I saw was a Creedmore topic......and then posted this topic. Should have known better.

I will be hand loading for it. Plan is to develop a load and then it will only be used for big game hunting......no gopher or varmint shooting with this baby.
Stick with 140-grain bullets.
Buy 500 bullets and 8 pounds of the chosen powder.
If you are lucky you might have to do that one more time in the life of the barrel.

Yep blem's and the occasional "over runs" are a very nice way to buy good products...
I purchased 200 rounds of loaded 150gr 300 SAUM Nosler Custom ammo (over runs) a number of years ago; the cost was less than Remington brass and bullet so powder and primers plus reloading time was free. Also picked up about 450 pieces of 150gr, 160gr, and 180gr Nosler blem's to round out the buy.

capowardRIP,
Are your H2O overflow measurements for the 26 Nosler and 26 Ripmoor both "fire formed, PFLR, trimmed length" measurements or is the 26 Nosler "new in box unfired"?
