thanks guys for the ruger ID, it is an ultra light. now for the next question, with its 20in barrel am I better off with a faster powder like IMR4350 or should I stay with my old reliable H4831sc. I will be loading 130gr bullets for it.thanks!

The powder that gives the highest vel. in a 24" bbl. still does in a 20" bbl. You will likely get more muzzle blast but comes w/ the shorter bbl. You can switch to 4350 & probablyget less muzzle blast & get close to 4831 vel. but tath is your choice.

A 270 with a 20 inch tube, should still get you respectable velocity.
If You have a chroney , I would be interested in your results.
I am more interested in your powder charge than witch powder you use.
For example. the old stand by 270 load of 60 grains of H-4831 under any good 130 grain bullet, ususlly gets beetween 2950 and 3100, in most 24 inch tubes
In yours I would expect abit less.
But Im curious, how much your velocity would change from say 57 grains to 60 with your shorter tube.
I would bet you would not notice much difference beetwen in velocity beeween the charge weights.
If you get 2900 with a 130 And it groups, You have a very nice and usfull rifle there.
My Ruger RL-in .257 Roberts is sweet.
I would love to have one in .308, as a short action would likly be very light and handy.
