Just bought my first 7mm Remington Magnum. I made it 55 years without one but I decided to give one a try since the rifle was a good price. I am going to mount a spare Leupold 4.5-14x40mm scope on it. Hoping to find one load to use on everything in the USA and some plains game and Leopard in Africa

The 7 Mag sings with a slick 160gr bullet; Accubond, Scirocco, TSX, etc.

Story:

Pop and I flew out to Tulsa for the gunshow in 2006. After it was over we drove down to Dallas, Austin and on the way to Wimberley stopped at the Buda Cabelas or Bass Pro, can't remember which. They had two beautify Beretta Mato rifles in the rack. I never knew that Beretta made bolt actions. I think one was 308, can't remember the other. Anyway they were $500 each. Boy oh boy.

That is what I understand, but it may have changed at some point. I came close to buying a .300Win Mag a few times, but never did. You can replace Mato with almost many other brands, but then what would I have done?

I do not own a 7mm RM I have brass dies and bullets.

If a free market one comes along I'll buy and add to the inventory

They were made on the round model Dakota action.

I like the Beretta Mato except for one thing. If you drop and lose that magazine box, you are in deep trouble. They are really expensive if you can find one.

I wanted one until I realized they were the round Dakota not the Dakota 76. Nevertheless the ones I have handled were nice but I didn't care for the embellishments on the grip or magazine. For the right price I would buy one, but not what they go for.

I've had several. Yes, the early ones were built on Dakota 97 tubular actions, the later ones were sourced elsewhere. They came in synthetic and "Deluxe" versions with nice wood. When they were discontinued you could buy Deluxe wood stocks for really cheap, so many Deluxe rifles out there now are actually standard models with the stock added. As I remember, the true Deluxe rifles had polished bluing and the standards matte.
