Ruger m77 260 rem thoughts
My local pawn shop has this rifle

Any thoughts on a 18.5 barrel 260 ? Accuracy of a full stock ruger m77.

Stock is a little banged up from being stored every night in the safe.

Thanks

I have a Mannlicher stocked 6.5 X 55 with a 21" barrel. I would not like it to be much shorter... muzzle blast and loss of velocity are the two reasons. Handy rifle, tho'.

I love my .260 that is in a Remington model seven. It is low recoil and accurate, but does have some muzzle rise.
If you want a fast handling rifle for 200yrds or less then that m77 might be fine.
The seven has a 20" barrel and I sometimes wish it had a 22".
To each his own, though.

I would buy that and use it in a heartbeat.
Who cares about losing 15 feet per second per inch (potentially) or nothing lost at all.
Nice looking hard to find rifle.

I have a 338 win mag with a 20" barrel and all the "experts" told me about the lost velocity yet it shoots 225 grain bullets at 2845 fps.

Just my personal opinion, but if I wanted a shorter handier rifle, I'd buy a Browning BLR. Light, handy, large selection of calibers. Just a thought

My first center fire rifle was a browning blr in 243. I sold it to buy a Glock 17 on my 21st birthday. I have a custom blr in 375 ruger.

I may get a blr again.

The biggest question is it priced right.

If the price is right I would buy it.

Load some 140 grain partitions and go Elk/Moose hunting.

I don’t hunt with blasers. They are so perfect it takes out the sporting element of hunting Wink

Your Blaser K95 Credmoor barrel already suits your short barrel, medium caliber needs and should out shoot the heavier Ruger just with factory loads. So, why? Because it's flashy?

So very true. I really don’t need another rifle.

My k95 is a one hole rifle.

I like full stock rifles. What I should instead do is send one of my ruger African 375 rifles to wayne at ahr and build a full stock 375 ruger.

Ya know what Mike?
Need schmeed I say. Just wanting it is enough to buy it.

Years ago, I used to stop by at our local Kmart when they still sold guns and ogle at the stainless steel Boat paddle 77 in '06 in the case. Spent my pennies on fishing stuff then ended up into higher end guns when funds improved. Never did buy one.
But, I still "want one".
Would not pass up a N.I.B. one at a fair price.

The Ruger is a nice rifle. The 260 is a terrific little round. Together I would say you would have a friend and companion for many a long mile day. Accuracy will be enough is my bet.

I have the Ruger M77 MK II International (fullstock) in 30-06.
With the short barrel I guess my 180 grs Woodleighs duplicate more or less a 308 Win.
Still it is a very handy and accurate woods rifle, and it has become my favourite for walk and stalk in our coastal pine forest for red- and roe deer.

On the range, it starts to throw bullets after approx. 10 shots when the barrel heats up.
That`s due to the way the barrel are connected with the stock at the tip.

Still, this is not a rifle ment for long sessions at the range, but as a woods rifle it is a little gem, and I like it very much.

I have a tang safety .308 International. Accuracy is fine for what I use it for which is deer / hogs in the woods. Shoots most anything about 1.5" at 100 yds. It's so short and handy I find myself picking it up most all the time. One in .260 would be great.

Arild consider placing a firm fitting O-ring on the barrel close behind the front sight. Shoot it and move it as you do. You may find a sweet spot to improve your groops and drop the stringing
