sksshooter45 acp loads
so after reading the catastopic failure thread it got me worried about the first 100 bullets i loaded. when i first got started i was a little unsure of what data to use for some 185g plated bullets in my 45acp. basically what i did was take the min/max for jacketed bullets and min/max for the lead bullet data and kinda picked a spot in the middle and went with it. i ended up with 4.6g of bullseye i loaded up 100 rounds like that and gave a few a try. they shot fine and cycled the action properly but were sutty on the cases. i posted under the reloading forum on a local shooting forum and was told that i should be fine that the sut was from the case not expanding all the way to seal the chamber. i still have not shot these bullets mainly because i still have factory ammo and im attempting to keep track of how many firings my brass has but now i wonder if i shouldn't pull them and reload them to proper spec. any opinions.
also i will finally get to shoot my first reloads in my 270wsm tomorrow and that thread kinda kills my excitement.

richjI load 4.0 gr of bullseye with 185 and 200 swc. The competition paper punchers in my club use between 3.5-3.8 gr. with light or cut recoil springs. yes they are dirty.
For the 185JHP I've been loading 6.0 gr of bullseye which gives 975-1000 fps.

TEANCUMI've loaded 4.3 grains of Bullseye with a HG molded 200 grain cast bullet and shot many hundreds out of a tricked up Paraordinance 14-45 with awesome accuracy.
Yes it is not the cleanest load but I love the accuracy with it and it seems to be a commonly used powder among those accuracy boys.

fredj338That is a good way to come up with data for a new powder/bulet combo. It has kept me safe for decades. I would however caution you to load in smaller test lots. I load 10, the increase 0.1gr & decrease 0.1gr w/ 10 each. Shoot them in order, there is usally a sweet spot.

sksshooterthanks for the feed back guys seems like i may be worrying for nothing. i will just shoot them up. that lot of reloads taught me to not load so many before testing. i have since only loaded 10 or so to test and went from there. i will definatly be shooting my 270wsm reloads in the morning and hope all goes well ive followed all the book info and am confident but still a little nervous as this is my first loads of this size. everything else has been 223 and pistol stuff.
