A "Different" Battery
If money was no object, what 3 or 4 rifle battery would you choose for everything from pronghorn to elephant? Also, what backup rifle would you use for each niche? I would like the calibers to be different and uncommon.

Light- 6.5 STW/6mm-06
Medium Light- .284 Win./7mm Gibbs
Medium Heavy- .358 STA/9.53 Hellcat
Heavy- .404 Jeffrey/.450 Rigby

With a 9.3X62 thrown in for good measure, of course [Smile]

Well, I would have the following:

.22 LR
.270 (or a .284)
.338WM
.416 Rigby

And yes, I would also keep a .30-06.

I don't know if that's as "different" as you had in mind, but those cartridges would cover all the bases for me in terms of world-wide big game hunting.

It'll do just fine Allen. [Big Grin]

N E 450 No2
This is a much better concept than the "one gun" question. This is what I actually use. LIGHT; 308WCF, if the ranges could possibly be in excess of 250yds,or it is an expensive/exotic hunt, 300WIN MAG. MEDIUM: 9.3X74R double rifle, scope in QD mounts, 375H&H, scoped. HEAVY; 450/400 3 1/4 double, 450 No2, both doubles. [I think I "need" a 577 NITRO or a 600]. Anytime I am pretty sure, or willing, to accept range limitations I will always use a double rifle, I really enjoy hunting with them. Getting close to the game is the fun part for me. [Big Grin]

I've just about talked myself into the view that the 9.3x62 is the do anything rifle for light to medium game including dangerous game, if necessary, inside 300yds.

For dangerous big game, the 404 Jeffrey.

For over 300 yds: light magnum: 30-338 or 300HH

A 22Hornet AI would be a nice light rifle for potting small game and birds.

Okay, what the hell... everyone else is doing it....

.243 Win
.300 RUM
.375 H&H
.416 Rigby

I can't possibly NOT include the .22LR (which goes without saying but shouldn't count towards the 4 choices, as it's a 'given') and probably the most used of my 'battery' the humble 12 gauge.
