I had two. One, a .270 Win. and one .376. Very accurate. Had a problem. Brass streches upon firing. After 3rd reloading, separated ahead of web. Did all the usual stuff...minimum resizing to just "feel" on closing the bolt. All that. Sent .376 back to Steyr USA. They sent it back saying that all is okay. Still separated cartridge heads. If all you want to do is shoot factory stuff, okay. But, if you reload, playing around with when the brass is going to let go is not my idea of fun.

This one is not the 376, it's a 280 stainless in camo-synthetic, a little more appropriate for an (almost) 11 year old.....! My wife shoot's a 280 (Tikka), so staying "in the family" would be nice.

I'm still not convinced on the deal, though: the SBS is more money than either the Tikka, or the Sig 970 her brother shoots, and both of those are smoother, with a trigger just as good. Both are sub moa, so that's a wash. I suppose that's why it's still on the rack. FWIW, Dutch.

The SBS action can use some minor gunsmithing to smooth things up. John has worked on both my rifles.

The one in Boise is $895.00. That is too high. In good shape $650.00 - $750.00 seems about right.
I think it would make a great rifle for your girl. With the Hornady 225 grain bullets at a modest velocity there isn't much kick at all.
With a 270 grain FailSafe over a good load of BL-C2 or Varget I imagine it would take about anything. I get less than an inch for 3 shots with the FailSafe in my rifle. I will never sell my rifle; it is definitely in my "keeper" pile.
The iron sight are a little low for the stock design. A girl with higher cheekbones might be able to get down on them quickly, but my Neandertal jaw gets in the way for me.
There is some shove with full house loads, but it certainly isn't the end of the world. If your girl rolls with the recoil it shouldn't bother her much at all.
I think it would be a good rifle for your purposes. Great Elk gun.
