Hornady 308 light mag
Does anyone shoot Hornady's light mag 308 loading out of a savage 99? I never have and I can't seem to shake the jitters over it. I would like to try them but I wasn't sure if it was safe.

I am not aware of any factory-loaded .308 ammo that develops pressures too high for the Savage 99. Those light mag. loads use a powder that is not available to handloaders, one developed specifically to keep pressures within industry standards yet produce higher velocities.

maybe you should be concerned about an autoloader but the M-99 will handle it fine.....Light Mags do not increase pressure.....they just keep the pressure up longer.

The back of the box says"use only in firearms with a fixed breech..If you are unsure..call 1-800-338-3220" They are a little sticky in my m88 which has front locking lugs.

I don't shoot them in a M99 but I have found that in my pet .308 they give the best accuracy of any factory and most of my handloads.

Well, if any rifle has a "fixed breech", that M 88 sure does-as fixed as any bolt-action!
