weatherby mkv ultra light 7rem mag
Considering getting one of these but qestion if I can shoot it accurately out to longer distances with it only weighing 51/2 lbs.Not concerned too much about recoil although qestion if I can control it with recoil. I see a lot of 300 win mag up for sale in this same group and Im guessing recoil is a factor.Anyone own or shoot one in 7rem.

It is a 6 3/4 lb rifle if it is a 7 Mag like mine. The 5 1/2 lb rifles are non-magnum actions.

As far as accurate....mine is.

Ted, Your absolutely right.Actually if you go to the weatherby web site their Specification page now list the MarkV Ultra Lites as 5 3/4 for the non magnums and 6 3/4 for the magnums.I like this much better recoil aside as I think it gives me an edge when it comes to longer range shooting accuracy.Have one in 243 and one in 7Rem mag ordered. Should be good outfits.Terry

Hey PlainsDrifter, My Wby U-Lt is in 308Win and is a real pleasure to carry. I've been considering one on 300WinMag to compliment the first one.

If you Reload, you can have your soon to be 7mmRemMag shooting without enough Recoil to matter. Have a buddy who worked himself up from 210gr Starting Loads in a 338WinMag to 250gr SAFE MAX Loads in less than a year.

Best of luck with the new rifle.

Hot Core, good to hear your experience.I got a shot of chemical that has slightly limited my wind capacity so to compensate Ive been changing my entire shooting wardrobe to lighter. Some of my Senderos,Coopers, and VlSs have already went.I think these Weatherby Ultras may prove to be the ticket once I become used to shooting them. They definitely seem to have the creditial and a good group of followers.

You could always go with the UL in the 280 Remington or 30-06. I have one in 30-06 and one in 338-06(never shot) and I have to say it's one of the most accurate and best handling rifles I ever shot. Under 7lbs scoped w/sling.

Why does the 6 3/4 Recoil and the 5 1/2 doesn't.

I dont believe anyone said that. All rifles recoil and the larger caliber the more recoil as well.My point was the lighter the rifle the MORE recoil affect and more difficulty controlling group accuracy from shot to shot. All my heavy barreled varminter rifles are easier to shoot consistant groups of bags opposed to my lightweight walking varminters.
