I just got a Classic Mauser 9,3X62 from gunsmith Mike McCabe today and mounted a 1-4 Leupold VX II in QD mounts. I shot a final 100 yard group with some ammo I had loaded 7 years ago for another Husqvarna 98 9,3X62 I once had. It was the load that worked well in the first gun, and it shoots the same in this new one!

This is a 5 shot group over the truck hood on pillows and measures 3/4". Sorry it's ragged; I had to use electrical tape as my target tape.

The load is 63gr of IMR 4350 under 250gr Ballistic Tip Noslers in new Graf brass with WW std large rifle primers.

Here's Mike's link. He tweeked the gun a bit and re-built it on a different action, as the Husqvarna had some pretty bad sidemount holes. He does nice work!

If you were to hold this rifle and look it over, you would see all the subtle refinements...bedded, Mdl 70 type safety, Talley bolt handle, FN contour, etc.

IMO the 250 gr. Nosler BT's were one of the all time best bullets ever made for a 9.3! I'm down to my last 25-30 loaded rounds; then the Accubonds will have to suffice.

While IMR-4350 isn't the choice for highest velocity in the 9.3x62 my experience is the same as yours - it does deliver 1st Class accuracy.

Nice shooting!! I have managed to get less than 1 in groups at 100 meters with the 250 BT's (until I gave all my extras to Gerry) with 57-58 grs of RL-15 in Grafs cases. Pushed them at just under 2400fps. Fun to shoot and they do a number on smaller big game (Roe, Impala, Springbok, etc.).

You have a problem with that rifle. It shoots its bullets all through the same hole. After a few rounds, you won't be able to tell if it's shooting where you want it, or if it's sending the bullets off to who knows where. I could save you some grief, just ship it to Newville, and I'll reimburse you for the shipping.

It do looks like an old rechanberd 146? Is that correct?
I have one 146 in 9,3x57 with the same foreend stock. Many of these rifles was rechamberd to the x62. or is it a rare 246?

Just saw your post and thought I was looking at my rifle. Looks like your rifle has nicer wood. Mine shoots well too. Very accurate. Just took it to Zim where it performed really well. Had a Leupold VX 111 in 1.75 x 6 with a heavy reticle with Warne detachable mounts. Used 286 gr. Swift A Frames. I just took the gun to a local gun maker to get a really nice English walnut stock built. The worn bluing will be bead blasted and re blued. I had already put an adjustable trigger on the gun. Going to put a Leupold VX111 2.5 x 8 scope on the completed gun. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing your story.

I recently built myself a switch barrel 9.3x62 X 7x57 custom from an old beat up junker Mod. 21 Brno, but the action was clean of pits, the 7x57 barrel was good and it came with a extra 8x57 shot out 8x57 barrel but with all the Brno hardware still on it.

I Bought it on AR classified from a fine gentleman who had it for project and no time to work on it..

I had the 8x57 re-bored to 9.3x62 of course, and using the 7x57 as a guide, Dennis Olson indexed them to chamber and fit the rifles inletting. Used the split out and broken stock glued together as a pattern stock, and turned a exhibition piece of Russian Circasian walnut and copied the original stock with a few detail additions..

Both barrels shoot to the same POI and both shoot inch groups pretty regular with both peep and iron sights without changing the adjustments!!!..that will never happen again between now and Armageddon!..

What was a surprize is both of the barrels had the "exact" outside deminsions so they fitted the inletting perfect. Amazing? Brno built them right.

I added Talley QD rings to it and a Talley peep also and a like new 3X Leupold, good rust blue. Its my go to gun from now on..Love both of those calibers and it will work for Duiker to Elephant.

I switch barrels by taking the stock off and screwing in the barrels, and taping to the mark with a homemade barrel wrench thats small enough to pack in my pocket. It gives me a good lockup that will never wear.

I've had my Husky 98 9.3x62 for almost 10 years and have yet to try a load it doesn't at the very least "like". It shoots any load well but some are superior.

My two best loads use 250g Accubonds and 286 Partitions. The Accubonds always place under an inch.

I found mine on a used gun rack at a shop in Mesa Arizona. I picked it up for about $250 after the folks on this forum explained to me what a great caliber the 9.3 was. It had been sittin' there for months.

My Husky 9.3 was also bought at an AZ gun show, in Glendale. I have the FN action; I picked it up knowing nothing about the 9.3x62 with the intention of using the action for a project. Doing research on the cartridge and finding all I needed to load online I decided to keep it. I had it glass bedded as it had started to crack in the wrist, a recoil pad (old one was crunchy) and a reblue.

On my first trip to Africa we were talking to the old man who was manager of the place we were at and he asked, “What are you shooting?” I say “a 9.3 Mauser”. He says “That is what I shoot” with a big smile.

I have since picked up a like new CZ in 9.3 but when I go out to shoot I take my Husky

Ah, that's the same scope I put on my CZ 550 in 9.3 x 62.

As far as a scope for my Husky 9.3, I started out with an old K4 steel Weaver in detachable Warne Rings and simple steel Weaver 2 piece mounts on the rifle. The thin reticles on the K4 were a bit hard to see so... I upgraded to a Bushnell 2-7 scope (also in Warne detachable rings) and it's perfect for the rifle. I keep the old K4 scope and rings with the gun so I have a backup scope when hunting.

I have this thread bookmarked and come back to it every now and then. Some real eye candy. I have two Huskys in 9.3. One x57 and one x62. Then there is the lowly Savage rebored. Shoots well and only asks to see daylight now and then. It had a tupperware stock and I bought a wood stock, fitted it, and have both stocks for the appropriate weather. Maybe since I resurrected this I need to add photos of my own.

I see you have the front scope ring just behind the gold ring of the scope. Is the lens housing under the ring?

I mounted a couple of short scopes like that and found that if I tightened the rings the lens started getting tiny spots on the edges! I sent those scopes back to Leupold & they replaces the lens & cleaned the inside. It seems the squeezing of the lens housing by the tight ring actually flexes the lens a bit and the very hard coating chips off.

Leupold advised me to locate the ring behind the lens housing.

Their service team can give mixed advise at times - I first asked them about mounting my scope on a CZ 550 action & they said it was fine. Now it seems the scope is not long enough for that action!

I do like the Husky Mauser and it seems a very good shooter. That is sound advice from Nakihunter and it would be a shame for your scope to suffer the same damage as he experienced. Perhaps you should use an extension ring turned backwards.
I have a straight tubed Leupold mounted on my 404, different mounting arrangement to yours but it has been there for 35 years now and the front lense is perfect. The photo shows what Nakihunter is referring to in terms of placement of the front ring in relation to the lense.

Luv2 have you tried RL17 yet? Ray has and gets some good velocities.Just wondered if there was some more data out the tried by folks I "know".

wow, 2003 posts and yes, my switch barrel Brno went down the road at a fancy price this old country boy couldn't turn down..

My new 9.3x62 was a beautiful Mauser that had seen much abuse but the bore was shot so I had it rebored to 9.3x62, I tried a cupful of RL-15 and Rl-17 and got up to 2704 FPS with some old Balistic tips and the new Accubonds, and both gave sub minute groups with both powders as did H414..

This rifle had a beautiful blood red stock with black full fiddle back, had some minor cracks behind the tang and trigger guard, so match them up, glass beaded the whole inlet, stuck in some cross bolts and shored up the innards with some glass and steel..The barre is a half octagon, half round, full ribbed barrel,and I added a recoil lug to it, and resoldered the barrel swivel and had it rust blued.

Turned out beautiful, slim and mean, with a schnable and Blackburn trigger and scope friendly safty, Talleys with a 3X Leupold and talley peep in my pocket..

I've owned it now for 4 years, record setting for me.

Ya gotta love the 9.3x62. Kills like a 375 H&H and kicks like a 30-06.
