Limbsaver Recoil Pad
I own a Ruger M77 Compact in a .308. My wife wants to shoot this gun, but I have to admit the gun bucks a lot since it is so light. I do not want to have to take my wife in for stiches to fix a cut above her eye...has anyone ever tried one of these Limbsaver Recoil Pads?? I know they have a slip on and grind down, and since the end of the stock on this gun is so small (the gun is only 35" long) I can't find a brand that will fit. Any suggestions????

I have used the grind to fit and the prefit on several guns, they are the best recoil pad made as far as I'm concerned. I used to think the Decelarator was the best until I tried the Limbsaver, they are now the only pad I will use on heavy kickers. I'd recommend the small grind to fit and just grind the mating surface and flare to the full size so as to leave a larger footprint, makes for less felt recoil. The small #10541 is grindable to: 3 7/8" x 1 11/32".

Instruction for grinding are at the Limbsaver web site. That is what I did on this .45-70 Ultra.

I just put one on my 300wsm in a savage I was really surprised. The rifle is very pleasent to shoot now the factory pad wasn't nothing to talk about. I bought the pre fit one. This is the only recoil pad I will use for now on.

I put one on a 338WM along with a mercury recoil reducer and it is a dream to shoot. Push not smack.

Ive got one that Im putting on a custom 06. It is obvious that it will curb recoil better than a decellerator. Im anxious to try it.

I have one on my Ruger 77 Lott. Works great for recoil. But it is a bit 'grabby' on clothes when trying to shoulder it quickly. I'm going to try some of that recoil pad lacquer that Brownells offers to see if that helps slick it up a bit. Other than that, no problems...

They work Great!

I have three and have been well pleased w/ their performance.

My wife shoots a .270 w/ the Limb-Saver Pad, it seems to work great for her.

Good Luck!

I put one on my .300 Win Mag. It is like daylight and dark. I found that it reduced the recoil greatly. I would highly recommend.

Sounds like a winner to me...thank you for all the comments.

Maybe I should be buying stock in the Limbsaver Company??

7x57mm
Madgoat: I will second or third almost all that people say about the Limbsaver and I will relate why. I have a shooting bud who had shoulder surgery a few years ago in which his right shoulder bones were all but removed. I have a CZ 550 in 7x57mm, and Tom liked the caliber a lot. We found a used Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57mm that was bought for a song, and dance. Tom refinished his rifle stock, got a Leupold 4x12 scope for the rifle and I developed handloads using 45 grains of H4350 and the 150 grain Nosler Partition. That load certainly did not kick much to me, but Tom could only manage three to five shots before his shoulder was too sore to shoot any more. The recoil pad on the rifle was old, red colored and brittle. I started looking into a recoil pad for his rifle that might help him. I posted on two of these sights and Limbsaver came up on both questions a number of times. I contacted Limbsaver, got the correct size recoil pad for his rifle and had a gunsmith install the grind-to-fit model. The rifle came back and we took my CZ and his Winchester out to the makeshift range in Bonita Canyon in the Zuni Mountains near my apartment. When the company says the recoil pad reduced felt recoil by 50 percent, they mean it. The bottom line, Tom was able to fire 30 rounds that day with no complaints about his shoulder hurting. I think he could have shot more, but he ran out of handloads. He was amazed and to be honest, so was I. I have heard a couple of complaints that the pad is too soft and might tear easy. I think that if one takes reasonable care of his, or her rifle, then you will have no problems with it, just don't use the butt portion as a boat paddle or a club to beat down a thorn bush or barb-wire fence. I have one a a 5#10oz (that is with scope and sling) .270. I milled the back out of the pad before I installed it. Linbsaver is designed to have this chamber thing in the pad, but I cut it out to save what had to be over an ounce. It still works just fine as it is. I like them far more than a Decelerator and will use them on all guns when I am worried about recoil from now on. But I still like a SIlvers the most and use it even on .375's

I put one on my Ruger No. 1 .45/70 with 55 ft/lb of recoil. It does make the thing easier to shoot. Still not a real pleasure, but a great improvement over the Ruger pad!!
