Anyone have any dope on the 8x57?
Trying to compare your favorite loads to mine.
So far, I'm using IMR4320 with 150 gr. slug.
Shoots about 2" @ 200 yds. outta my old M98.

vapodogFor as good as some of those mil-surp rifles are it's going to be tough to improve much on that.
Mostly I've bought them for their actions only and never shot them for serious groups as a shooter "as-is".

IMR 4350 is better suited to bullets of 200grs in the 8X57
I have had good luck with IMR4064/Varget/IMR4320 and similar powders with 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.
150s I would think would need something perhaps even a little "faster".

MajorCaliberH-380 has grouped the best for me, with loads at max in the loading books. Groups under a 1/2" at 100 yds common with 150 and 175gr Sierra's

shelbaby38H380 also work very good for me with the Speer 150.
Thanks all for the fodder.

snowmanShelbaby If you want to hunt with a military 8x57 I would suggest you give serious consideration to using the 175 gr Sierra,185 gr Remington or best of all the 200 gr Speer. W760 is a good powder for all 3 weights and IMR 4350 is good with the 200.These heavier bullets will give up a little muzzle velocity to the 150 gr bullets but check out your trajectory and remaining energy at 200 & 300 yds. I have found the heavier bullets group far better that the 150's.

buckshotI was playing around with the 8X57 and came up with this:
IMR 4895 49.5gr and the 185gr R-P bullet, velocity is 2565 fps. Here's the best part (or worst depending on how you look at it) I resized a bunch of LC match brass for the project.
This really worked well in my Yugo and K98. Will do 1 3/4" with iron sights (or better if I do my part). I will try it in the Husky when time permits.
