I ask this as i have a cousin in Hllnd across the border from de.I am looking to see if it is cheaper if they buy the bullets there and bring them w/out paying OWS price and also if it is legally possible. This is for 8x57JS H-Mantels. I have had 5 deer with one shot and excellent accuracy.

try Lee at iron cross gunsmith. he imports from Frankonia catalog directly from Germany. good prices and he is a pro at importing. ALthough the exchange rate is killing us for germanic goods right now.

Is there some kind of European crapola associated with just getting the bullets? What is it with you socialist flakes over there? Do you need a license and supervised training to even think about guns?? Come to the US, become a citizen and go nuts. Any and all willing to work hard and dream big are welcome!

I do not believe we socialist flakes over here have any legal restricitons on normal hunting bullets. As opposed to the United States, where you need to pay a fee and get an export permit from Washington to ship any bullets or even empty cases abroad.

8mm RWS H-Mantel are about 45 Euro per 50.
You should be able to get similar performace from much cheaper American bullets.
The H-Mantel takes more than 30 steps in production, thus the price.

Isn't the H-mantle about like the Nosler Partition. Two lead cores, front and rear, with jacket material separating them. Nosler may have liberated the design from RWS, as I believe that the H-mantle came out in the 1930s.

In the H-Mantel, the two cores are only partially separated by the jacket. Due to the hollow point, the front half of the bullet opens very quickly and usually sheds most of its weight. The rear part is supposed to exit without much expansion.
These bullets normally kill quite well, though sometimes the exit holes could be larger for a better blood trail.
I find H-Mantel bullets more complicated than necessary and don't see a reaon to buy them in America. Plenty of good bullets available there!

Over here H-mantel and Partition are about the same price. I too think the Partition design is far better. The front part of the H-mantel is designed to desintegrate and not to mushroom. After desintegration of the front half, the rear half of the H-mantel is more or less a calibre size cylinder. I wonder if this rear part will hold it's line or will start to tumble?
