7MM STW bullet choice ?
For those of you who have or do shoot the 7mm STW cartridge, what bullets do you like for long range deer and antelope?

Thanks, Lonnie

I use the 140gr ballistic tip.I have taken around twenty animals with this bullet including several deer weighing in excess of 300lbs.To date not one animal has covered 50 yards after being hit.

I've had pretty much the same results as Stubblejumper, 140 gr. Ballistic Tips have worked great for me. Put a stout charge of RL-22 behind it and have fun [Big Grin]

How fast can you drive the Nosler Ballistic Tips out of a 26 in barrel in a 7mmSTW? What kind of accuracy did you get?

Thanks, Lonnie

Have used the hornady 139gr interlock like I did in 7mag. The scirocco was nice but got too expensive. My friend used my rabbit loads, some Remington corelokts 140 gr and hit his elk in the inside tip of the shoulder, bullet totally decinergrated. Made it to the lungs though. Metered 246yds bush-800 RF the lungs were the size of an orange. Blood shot the whole 1/2 side. I use the 139 interbond since they came out, none of these 139 bullets listed have come apart on me like the pictures shown in under the reloading section under topic 270 info. The speed of those bullets were 3000fps and a 130gr bullet total core seperation. I use Imr 7828-83grs max and av-fps 3530-3550- 26in accumark-Layne Simpson Load Data. For got,the accuracy I get is Av. 1in, a circled quarter with a magic marker [Wink]

My two custom 7mmstw's produce 3500fps with 140gr ballistic tips and both average right around 1/2" for three shot groups.

What kind of brass do you prefer for the 7MM STW?
I used to have the Layne Simpson data, but don't know where I put it, where can I get that particular data?
Thanks,Lonnie

I tried remington-8mm mag brass first, then just plain remington-7stw. After all that, ended up with winchester being the best for my gun and that load. [Wink]

I have had great success with 139 gr. Hornady SST's, H4831, Winchester Brass, and Federal Large Magnum Rifle primers. I have shot several deer with this round and they either drop in their tracks or go a VERY short distance before dropping. I get a .873 inch group at 3150 fps.

I am trying 160gr accubonds this year for whitetail. 80gr RL25, Win. brass, Fed215GM, avg ~3230fps. Best 3-shot group was ~.573" I am mostly trying to establish this load on whitetail for use on muleys or elk down the road.
