ted thornWhayever it is I'm not loosing any sleep over Hornady solving a problem they didn't know existed.
Or trying to convince me they reinvented the wheel
Hornady.....impress the piss out of me
Tool up to produce 22LR or start making all the bullets you stopped making in late 2013 and early 2014 and stop dicking around with crap we don't need

Yes. That would be a change. A change for the better.
I am betting that the new thing might be a .22WMR necked down to .17 or .20 or some sort of huge hyper velocity rimfire.
Or possibly not but something else.

Big Wonderful WyomingNew metal?
New core metal, tungsten? bismuth?
Lots of possibilities.
27 October 2015, 07:36
Idaho SharpshooterThey have been working closely with ruger and will be introducing my 22-378 Wby Ackley Improved
necked down to .17" caliber with an 80gr bullet in a 1:4" twist at 7500fps in a new true magnum length action.
The bullet will be made of tungsten with a plated copper coating and a zombie nose softpoint.
27 October 2015, 07:37
Lamarlook at the equipment they are using that should give you a clue.
27 October 2015, 20:34
Heym 450/400Well the bullet is interesting more from the accuracy claims than the long range aspect...but the new reloading press at the end of the video I really liked. I'm a sucker for any of the new toys and gadgets
Couple new offerings in the dangerous game line as well

Big Wonderful WyomingI like the bullet and the case dryer. Neat stuff!

Big Wonderful WyomingJust made it to the "Iron Press", ok I want that too.

larrysELD-X...is that like Accubond LR??? Just go back to making the stuff you quit making and move on.

scottfromdallasIt's not bonded. Just a more frangible SST with a better BC and a new tip. I'm completely underwhelmed. I never cared for the SST except for in the 6.8 spc where muzzle velocity is only 2400 fps.
29 October 2015, 03:54
MickinColoI'm not sure but the video may be about their new "Heatshield" bullets.
29 October 2015, 04:01
ted thornYes that's what it seems to be about and it is very laughable

Heym 450/400I've noticed this 22 ammo theme in a number of posts...whats the problem? It couldn't be more readily available.
29 October 2015, 05:53
Fury01I like the case dryer unit as well. Sure would cure trying to answer the question, "Honey, why are your socks making a clanging noise in the dryer?"
Probably could make Jerky with it too in a pinch.

Big Wonderful WyomingWalmart has none, one of the gunshops in town gets it from time to time.
It is still hens teeth rare.

Heym 450/400Well since I opened up this can of worms..... The whole 22 ammo shortage makes me laugh. I can't count how many times I've heard guys complaining about not being able to get any and when asked will admit they have 5k or more sitting on their shelves. I heard a guy complaining in the office just last week about 22 ammo and he has well over 50k rounds of it just sitting at home. So IMO the ammo shortage isn't about not having any it's about guys throwing tantrums cause they can't buy some every second of the day. If it was available the guy with 50k plus rounds wouldn't be trying to buy any but tell him it's scarce and all the sudden he "needs" some and its the end of the world

Heym 450/400I had hoped that if it was in fact a bullet that they were coming out with it would of been something intended for elk size animals with a heavier construction. So I'm somewhat disappointed as well. Maybe this bullet can serve that purpose. But I'll stick with Barnes....the other new goodies in the line up are far more interesting than the bullet. On my wish list for Hornady would be to beef up the DGX bullet, it seems to shed far too much weight compared to other DG bullets available.
29 October 2015, 22:25
touchdown88If the bullets do act like the old interlock bullets I will be happy to use them. My dad used the interlock bullets to take a nice bull elk this year.

rnoviI offer two screenshots from Hornady's website:
First, we have the awesomeness called the ELD-X! In 7mm Rem Mag, of course. Because that's the just ultimate cartridge for the application of this bullet.
Now, let's hit the way way way way way back machine and roll some old-skool Superperformance SST's...
The SuperPerf ammo in a similar weight has a better trajectory for the distances that Hornady lists...Sure, velocity has something to do with it. On the other hand, why would Hornady load down relative to their existing stuff? Or, wait, is it that they were juuuust a tad optimistic on the velocity there?
Damn. I hate it when that happens.

Regards,
Robert

olarmyJust: I'm happy for you that you found your interlocks. But I'm not happy to just learn that Hornady has discontinued my favorite bullet: 120gr 257 HP.
I know it's old school and not sexy. But it has been very accurate in numerous rifles for me, and it's terminal performance has been perfect at the pedestrian ranges that I shoot critters. I don't need a BC of .500+ and neither do 95% of hunters today. And besides, the HP doesn't melt off.
Count me among those who are not happy with Hornady.
30 October 2015, 20:18
Smokin JoeI heard from an industry insider that they still use the same plastic tip, but now, to keep the bullet nose from melting and drooping, they just tumble them in powdered Viagra.
