Thought this was going to be easy. Unfortunately they don't make it in 338 Win. Mag. unless you want to spend $3000 for the custom build.

Choices are basically either the 30-06 or 9.3 X 62.

They don't ship the Kevlar medium to Canada(7mm Rem. Mag.)

I have never shot the 9.3. What is the recoil like on the caliber?

If you were looking at a .338 then the 9,3 recoil shouldn't worry you.

My lightest 9,3 is just a hair over 6 lbs. Recoil is not unpleasant.

The 550 full stock that I shoot in 9.3 (286 grain bullets)does get my attention after a box of cartridges and I wonder why I left the 257 Roberts back home. The recoil is more of a "push" rather than the sharp crack that I perceive when shooting some of the more modern magnums. Hope this helps.

I just got in my CZ 550 American Kevlar in the 93.x62 and installed the scope just last evening. The rifle was more than I expected. Fit and finish is excellent, trigger seems to break crisply and the bedding job is flawless. I can't find any machining marks or rough edges. The action isn't as smooth as some of my rifles but very acceptable. I can't tell you about recoil but I can't imagine that it can be any worse than my X-Bolt 300WM. If she's as accurate as the test target that came with it, I will be a happy camper. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, including a 30-06 if it would fill a hole in my meager collection.

Have you tried Prophet River? They may be able to sort out the importation and then there is no need to compromise.

I,ve got a couple of CZs in 9.3x62, one a full stock, the other a kevlar stocked American with the 23 inch barrel. The full stock weighs 7.4 pounds, with slightly over enthusatic handloads, don,t find the recoil much different than a .338 with light bullets.. Just picked up the kevlar this winter, with scope, maybe a smidgeon over 9 pounds. With the standard( from my reloadin bench at least...) load of 57 grains of Varget behind a 286 grain pill, the kevlars a pussycat. The full stock gives ya a little more of a kick. I,d say more of a, shotgun, big push, than the sharp snap of a .270..
That bein said, I,ve mucked about an awful lot from the bench, foolin around with front sight heights and other excuses to do a lot of shootin with the full stock... Usually runnin low on ammo before before I,m runnin out of fun.
Think I prefer the feel of the 286s to the 250s, shootin wise.. And I,ll admit to be bein somewhat recoil sensitive.

The full stock and the kevlar carbine are basicaly the same gun, different stock, 3 pos safety,which I happen to like. Had one installed on the kevlar gun.
On a side note, if you decide to get the kevlar carbine, for quick detach rings, you might want to take a look at the Alaska Arms rings. Put a 2-7x33 30mm scope on the kevlar with low rings. Clearanced the bolt just a tiny bit to miss the scope.

I would be loading the Barnes 250 TSX.

338 Win. Mag. recoil with 250's is no problem for me.

2500-2600 fps should produce a more pleasant push than the sharper kick of a 300 mag. at 3100.

I have a 9.3 full stock and the American 550 in 9.3. I have been having trouble getting great accuracy out of the full stock. If you have any loads for yours that you would be willing to share, I would appreciate it.

I already have it shimmed. It's just one of those rare rifles that the first dozen recipes turned up nothing, plus full stock rifles don't tear up shooting competitions.
I'm not giving up.

I took a saw to mine, now its a carbine

I got a booklet from my dealer and the rifle I am interested in is the 550 Synthetic. It is a plastic stock and is cheaper than the Kevlar.

I want to buy the cheapest stock I can get with the rifle because the stock will be changed to the McMillan. I don't like the excess drop at heel that the CZ stocks have. I much prefer a straight taper comb/heel after finding an article in an old Outdoorlife magazine by Jim Carmicheal. He titled it, "An Open Letter To Gun Manufacturers" and writes about the benefits of the straight taper stock. Remington came out with the Classic rifle a few months after that letter.

9.3x62 without a doubt. It'll do everything a .338 Win Mag will out to 300 yards.
