Hot CoreM700 XCR All-Weather
Some interest has been expressed about the 2007 M700 XCR All Weather rifle. So I did a bit of research on them and determined that the good ole boys at
Remington have done themselves proud - again.
The basis for the rifle is a typical M700 Stainless barrelled action. For those of us who actually use our rifles outdoors in some tough environmental conditions, this Model has been a real blessing. I got the very first M700 like this I could find in the Carolinas many years ago. It is an ADL 7mmRemMag and has held up very well. But, like all Stainless, it just "slows" the rust process enough so we can clean them at night and be sure no rust will overtake the rifle.
Obviously someone at
Remington has Hunted with those of use who go out in bad weather and the harsh coastal environments, when the Termite Food stocks and constantly Rusting Blue firearms stay in the house.
Remington simply realized an outstanding product could be made even better.
Not everyone needs an XCR nor would everyone appreciate what the rifle offers. If you only take your firearms out when the sun is shining, you could still enjoy the inherent exceptional accuracy, but would never derive the full benefit of this rugged design. For me, it would be a nice upgrade and I'll keep it in mind as I get the Trading Urges.
Remington takes the standard M700 Stainless barrelled action and initially coats it with Nickle. That would be an enhancement by itself, but they did not stop there. Next they coat it with Zirconium Nitrate using the Vacuum Deposition process.
Remington refers to it as their "TriNyte Corrosion Control System". The rifle also incorporates the newly released "X-Mark Pro Trigger" and a Hogue Stock.
I really find it difficult to believe they have improved the best Factory Trigger on the market, but I look forward to trying one in the future.
MSRP is quoted just above $1000, so we should be able to get them for $800 or so.
Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

DwightA friend of mine at the range got one and it is nice and of course shoots good but he does not like the stock. Everybody has different taste in that respect.

Hot CoreHey Dwight, I agree that the stock is something I would want to actually handle a bit before buying one.
One of my buddies has a couple of the Hogue Rifle stocks that I've not seen yet. He mentioned they seemed to be dimensioned a bit larger in the grip than what he was used to. Of course that is totally meaningless unless you have handled his other stocks.
He also related the Tackiness of the coating was interesting. Seems that it provides an excellent grip. But, he has not had one in the rain - yet. Maybe it will be outstanding, or maybe not, just don't know.
Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

DwightHot Core,
I recently tried the HS precision for my 7mm08 with the palm swell and it really feels nice and shoots good. I have another one on the way for my other 7mm08. They will be twins except for the barrel lengths. 20 and a 24.

I was talking to the tech support at H-S Precision this week and they can make you a stock for it to your length of pull. $340 plus a little xtra for the LOP change.

You are "designed well" for Dragging Deer.

Have you ever had a Factory Rifle that fit reasonably well?

Hey Dwight, I've heard a lot of good things about HS Precision. And it looks like you have a good option for "7 MAG" with that longer stock.

SuperMidgetMaybe I've been unlucky, and the gunshop I frequent that stock the XCR got a bad bunch, but everyone I've handled has squealed on closing.
Is this endemic to the series, or was it a bad bunch at the gun shop.
Btw, this wasn't one or two isolated it was 8 different ones in five different calibers.

Hey SM, It seems a lot of firearms end up getting in Inventory with little to no Lubricant on them, especially Stainless ones. If you happen to go back to that Gun Shop, ask them to put a very small dab of Lubricant(oil or grease) on the backside of the Bolt Lugs and try it then.

Hey 7 MAG, Those are some formidable feet you have.

Gila JorgeIn response to factory fit of rifles..they should leave the damn pads off and just put a butt plate in place that way I can add my own pad, a kick*eze and adjust length and pitch when I install the pad. That is the solution.
Forget the cheap chumps who hate paying for pads and are too lazy to adjust each rifle to fit them. Let those guys go to WalMart....

seafire/B17GI saw a Stainless Remington at a Gun Counter, at Blackbird here in Oregon yesterday, that was on an CDL stock and had a fluted barrel...chambered in 270...
Talk about a gorgeous rifle!
Really impressed me for a Remington...
Price was reasonable, if you consider current rifle costs as reasonable...
