In 4 weeks I´ll be hunting in Namibia with the 8,5x63 for Kudu, Oryx and...
The cartridge is loaded with the 250grs Nosler Part.(GolD)with a Speed of 2600fps. Are this enough to get good results?

BiebsThat's pretty much a 338 Win Mag or 350 Rem Mag....can't do much better for the larger antelope.

SnellstromPractice at all ranges that you can imagine shooting game at and know your rifle well, shoot it well and that load will kill them dead.
Good luck on your trip.!

Bill73I have killed game upto a giraffe with a 250 gr Tsx going 2750 fps from my 338 Lap,don't think you will have any problems if you practice & shoot well.

Monastery-ForesterThe practice is not the problem - I´m something like a PH here in Germany...

p dog shooterI like hunting with rifle that push bullets at that speed.

crbutlerIf you kill stag with it, it will work just fine for the mentioned animals.
Kudu and Oryx (especially Kudu) are not that hard to kill. Finding the one you want to shoot is the hard part.

NakihunterThat is very much like a 9.3X62 with 250 gr bullets and that is good enough for all big antelopes and I guess even Lion.
What is the imperial caliber of 8.5mm - is it a 338? For those animals you might also consider the Nosler Accubond

Yes, it is the german designation oh .338 caliber.

kjjm4So in essence you've got a .338-06? Nothing wrong with that. It ought to do the job just fine.
28 February 2017, 00:31
Monastery-ForesterIt is something like a .338/06 improoved.

Terry BlauwkampIt should work just fine.
Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

And that's from the Master of the 338!

Atkinson250 gr. bullet with that kind of SD and at 2600 FPS with that good cross section is cloning the 358 Norma, and that's pretty hard to beat..at any rate the specs are time proven killers.

bpesteveMy limited experience (two times) in Namibia hunting for game of that size tells me that the load you describe will work very well. Even for eland if you want.

Monastery-ForesterI was often told, that the 250grs bullets are too heavy for this cartridge and this purpose, but I´m always a fan from "heavy-wheights. Or would you prefer the 225grs Nosler Part. at 2700fps?

jaegerfrankThe choice of 225/250 is imho a but depending on the anticipated ranges. If the majority of shots are below 150m I would stick with 250. Both bullets and weights are fine choices.
