Recommended bullets for .308
I would welcome any advise from .308 shooters - what are your favorite bullets for 1) deer/antelope size game and 2) elk/plains game.

I personally like the 165 gr Nosler Partition for anything less than larger game. Have been very effective.

For larger game I upgun to .338 WM.

I'd agree that the 165gr bullet is a good choice for general use in the 308. Kudude

+1. 165 to 180 gr in any solidly constructed, quality projectile. I'd take the Nosler Partition every time, but that's just my preference.

Cheers, Dave.

I've had very good luck with Sierra 165gr HPBT or SBT Gamekings over the years for deer and hogs (up to 350#). Never shot anything bigger, but I'm currently in the process of trying out 180 SBT Game Kings as part of load development in the hopes of eventually taking some larger critters.

Nosler 150 Partition, or 150 Accubond, 165 Ballistic Tip for the deer antelope size game. 165 Accubond or Partition, 165 Swift Aframe for the bigger deer species.

Almost any 150 to 165 gr bullet will work on deer and antelope in the 308.

I have killed them with 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips, & Nosler Solid base.

I have used many more 165 gr. bullets, the 165 Hornady, Nosler Partition, Ballistic Tip, Trophy Bonded Bearclaw, 168gr Winchester Ballistic Silvertip, and many with the 165 Sierra HPBT Gameking, and some with the 180 Nosler Partition.

On bigger game I have used the 165 gr Trophy Bonded, and the Barnes 180 MRX, I would be just as happy with the 180 Nosler Partition.

If I absolutely had to pick one load, it would be the Federal 165 gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaw.

From bobcat to Zebra/wildebest it has done very well.

And because it is a bonded bullet it does not fragment and tear up the hides on the smaller animals.

The ones that are .308" in Diameter !.Ha Ha

Everyones already covered it for you 150 - 180 grain work very well in animals you mentioned .
Sierra's have always worked well for me as have Noslers .

The Big Guy pegged it . Ditto for myself .

For deer and lopes,
I would pick the 150 or 165 grain bullet that shoots best in your rifle.
Neither have a reputation of being very hard to kill if you hit them well.
As for Elk , you might consider the likly terrain in witch you would be hunting.
IF your longest shot will be 200 yards then go with a 180. If you think you might go 300, (and thats as far as I would shoot an elk with a .308) then go with a 165.
You might consider a box each of 165 grain balistic tip (for deer ) and acubonds (for elk).
I bet they would print real close to the same point of impact.

2) 180 grn PSPs
