jetbluemanM70 .375 H&H Classic Stainless gun show find
After 3 years (!) of reading and some corresponding with a few site members, I finally got my safari gun. Had a new one on hold for me for $719 at a store but decided to go with this pre-owned one I found at a show. The only 3 things I found wrong were that it was missing open sights and the bottom
assembly hinge was needing an adjustment. I plan to replace the bottom bracket with a Williams and put NECG open sights on it anyway. So I'm hoping I got a good deal for the $550 paid. Any other ideas for mods? I'm wondering
which stock you might recommend. I like the basic Winchester feel of the stock. Thanks for the input. Scott

Savage99If you have the Winchester injection molded stock like the ones I have seen I don't think your going to like it.
The one that came with my SS Classic 7mm WSM has a recoil "pad" that must be made from black painted 4140 to Rc 48. But you have the basic gun that you want so it's not that bad a deal at all.
If you have a better stock than what I got good for you. Mine looks nice but that's all. I put a B&C on mine. That's a good choice for soaking up recoil and economy.

idahoelk101Sounds like a deal to me, I paid about $20 more for mine. I aquired a supergrade factory stock for mine and like the look (although the purists would poo poo a stainless gun in walnut) I have to agree that the factory plastic is pure utility and needs a recoil pad replacement, but as such I still use the plastic one when afield.
Are the bolts also stainless on the m70 ss .375 classic, I mean are they as stainless as the ruger MK11's ??

idahoelk101I'll tell you a little secret, I called the winchester custom shop, and the "stainless" acutraments (crossbolts, sling swivel studs, grip cap, etc.) are nickel plated to resemble stainless. So you take the parts and have them brush or bead blasted finish nickel and there you go. (ala ultimate stainless MSRP $2000+)
idahoelk do you know if the bolt is actually stainless sometimes it is just the reciver and companies use the same bolts and then claim it is a stinaless rifle.

idahoelk101I may be wrong but I belive that all of the classic control round feeds are stainless bolt bodies, but I could be mistaken.(Never tried to rust one
