NitemannRuger 77/44 Boyds Stock ?
Anybody use a Boyds stock on their Ruger 77/44 or 77/357? If so how did you like it? Which model and any pics.

dpcdNot for a 77/44 but I have used at least 25 Boyds stocks of most every shape they make. Every time they come out with a new one, I get a couple. Latest one is the Quest; I like those. I like the coyote, nutmeg, royal jacaranda, and camo laminates. Prices are on the website. Delivery is two weeks or so. The Quest is a light weight stock.
They make the classic, etc; boring shapes. Some guys want that. Boring.
They are all CNC inlet when you order and most drop in with little or no hand work. Surprisingly close inletting. I use Boyds now because traditional stock work takes too much time and I also restore WW2 Jeeps.

NitemannHave you tried the Spike Camp stock?
02 January 2025, 19:20
dpcdYes, when they came out 3 years ago, I built 8 450 Bushmaster hog rifles for all my friends, all using spike camp stocks in various colors. They are similar to the Quest; simpler. They work well. One in Zombie green with dried blood metal. Here are some of them. Note the second from the bottom; a 98 Mauser with an M16 magazine. I've and guys tell me, I don't like thumbholes; these are more like pistol grips; do not have the feel of a thumbhole.

NitemannDid you sand down the forend on the middle one? I like the more traditional forend look over the enlarged ones.

dpcdYes. Just planed off the square deep one to what you see.
Couple I just got; Spike camp and Quest; which is a bit lighter and a slightly different shape. And the fore end slots look cool. Note grip shape.

NitemannIt looks like the Quest does not have the blocky forend. Is that correct?
03 January 2025, 03:54
dpcdForgot to tell you; the Quest has a rounded forearm; the Spike camp is square. Much more comfortable to hold.

NitemannThanks, I think i'm going to go with the Quest.

dpcdNow you have to pick a color.

NitemannQuestion on the bottom picture. Are both of those Boyds forest camo? I just recieved the stock is ordered for my Remington 600 and was expecting the darker green like in the top pic but got one that looks like the bottom pic.

MARK H. YOUNGI'm also a Boyd's fan. For a couple hundred dollars and a friend who works cheap you can have a stock for about $600-$700 that looks like a high end custom. Totally reshaped and hand checkered.
