Bases and rings for Tikka T3
I've just finished openning the box on my fathers mail order T3 Lite Stain/Syn rifle in 270Win. I was disapointed to see no rings and bases.

I have the exact model rifle in 270WSM on back order for myself and the rings and bases are included. I was under the impression that it would be the same but Wholesale Sports does not do the deal I'm getting from the local sporting goods shop.

So now that I have to order my pop a system, what do ya'll suggest? Sako Optilok bases and rings are the most expensive that my catalogs list. I've been told by Wholesale that they are the best too. I have an option of putting cheap Weaver bases on the rifle and then going with Burris or Leupold rings. Russell's offers Millet rings also.

I want to make my order tomorrow because my ol'man is chomping at the bit to crawl behind his new rifle(me too!) and I have to mount his scope, break in the barrel, and develope a accurate load yet.

TIA

Leupold makes two piece bases to fit the t-3 that accept the standard leupold rings(not the weaver type). They are very solid and cost $29.99 from wholesale sports. The leupold number for the bases is 54447 and the wholesale sports item number is 189121

Talley makes nice lightweight inexpensive quality ring/base combos, and they are hard to beat on all counts.

Thaks for the replies guys.

He decided to go with the Opti Lok system.

BR, I wish I could talk you out of the Opti's. I have them for my Sako, and they are NOT worth the money, and WAY to high even with a low ring.

Stubby said to go with Leupold 2 piece, and I concur. Or go with the best, and get Conetrols...sakofan.. Just my .02

Oh, now you tell me!!

They were shipped first thing this morning.

If they look too high when I recieve them, we'll send them back. I'll do everything I can to make this rifle as comfy as possible for my father. He has problems shooting accurately sometimes and can only practice a few times a year.

For the time being, we are going to take the scope off his A-Bolt and put it on the T3. He plans on buying another scope in silver. Maybe a 50mm is the way to go with the opti system being high?

If you have a 50mm plus objective bell, the low rings will still be a little high, but you might be able to live with it. I ran a 44mm objective and they sucked for a good cheeck weld.

Why didnt you post this in the Optics forum??

Some people like them, but I dont. A good ring other than the height, and those blasted hex head screws. They have a nice liner between the ring and the scope. Who knows, you may like them.

OK...

Yes, I believe the Tikka and Sako have the same dovetail design....sakofan..I may be mistaken though.

These Optilocs have been discussed at length in the basement of the lowly Optics Forum.

I was hoping I could use the low profile Sako rings on the Tikka bases. Oh well.

Well see monday if the scope sits too high.

The rings are the same for Sako and Tikka. The bases are not. By the way, Sako now offers an Xtra Lo model of rings. Not much lower but still lower... Check their website for more info.http://www.sako.fi/pdf/specs/Optilockring.pdf

So let me get this clear once and for all, I can use Sako rings on the Tikka bases?
08 May 2004, 07:21
SAKO75
optilock rings are optilock rings

sako optilock bases are for sako

tikka optilock bases are for tikka

so I belive the rings are interchangeable the bases are all that is different

I want to find some extra lo rings!!!

Here in Sweden they are available, asked for them today at one of the places I use to do business with, and they had them in stock. Didnt list them on their website though. Optilock rings costs about $100 in Sweden (rings only!!!) . Maybe they will come later to the US?

They're here in Canada and the Us too I believe.

Wholesale Sports offers the SS low Sako Opti rings. Do the bases have anything to do with the reason I'm hearing about hight or is this a solution that was overlooked?

I was referring to the new extra low rings. The low rings are the old ones.
All bases have the same height. It is with the rings you decide the height of the mount. I have had a couple of my Optilocks modified so that they are 0.14" lower than the low ring setup. If you want I can try to get some pictures of them.

I packaged them back up and they're going back monday. I'm going to explore the Leupold option.

Mmm... I wonder if they make these in silver?

Those wont work. They would on my ol'mans old Sako. They are mediums too. I'm sending mediums back because they're to high.

Now I'm being told by my suppliers that it will take at least a month to get the Leupold bases on back order. Leupold has confirmed this.

I'm going to look at a third option.

Talley? Burris? Weaver?
