I just bought a new Remington 700 in 270, what are your breaking in practices on new barrels?

Also any tips on powder for 110 grain bullets?
and 150 gr. bullets?

This is a VERY disputed subject, my friend....

But, here's my break in routine...
1.Take the rifle out and clean like you just shot 100 rounds out of it.You must get all the factory grease and oil residue, metal shavings, etc. out of her.
2.Shoot 20 rounds out of her, being sure to let it cool between shots...EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! Heat is your rifles worst enemy...
3.Clean it thoughly, as you would normally, and keep on shooting!!!
I guess you can say I'm in the non-break in camp...Good luck...sakofan...

I've gone to both ends of this. I used to just clean them & shoot them. It seems tomake since to me, that some break in is desirable, kind of like a car engine. MOst bbl. manuf. recommend some kind of break in oeriod. You can go to their web sites & see what they recommend.

1) thoroughly clean the bbl. before starting (use a bore guide)
2) shoot 1 shot & wet patch followed by dry patch (this is a good time to get the scope on paper)
3) repeat process for 10 shots
4) thoroughly clean the bore
5) shoot for groups (3 or 5) & wet patch/dry patch btwn groups, for 20-21 shots
(6) thoroughly clean the bore & after every shooting session.
AS stated before, bbl. heat is a killer, let it cool down, no rapid fire. I always bring 2 rifles to the range so I can shoot, let cool, shoot. Have fun!

Clean it before shooting it, and between each shot for the first five shots, and between each five shots for the next fifty. Let it cool down every few shots, NEVER get the barrel so hot you can't rest your hand on it.
I like IMR 4350 for 150 gr.

Why, none at all!! The "breaking in" ritual that some people go through is like walking under ladders, and not crossing the path of a black cat!!

Life is too short to shoot one, clean one, shoot one, clean one.
Clean it well when you get it and clean it well after each range session. Use a bore guide and go easy with the brushes.
Avoid heat.
