I just bought a new Dakota 97 Long Range Hunter in 7mm mag.Does anyone know if a 2.5 x 8 x 36 VXIII will fit in Talley rings & bases without some type of extension base?

BuliwyfI don't believe the 2.5-8 will fit without ring extensions.

I can tell you with out a doubt that it won't fit. I went through this with mine. And if it is a newer model 97 with 8X40 base screws you can't use leupold QRW style bases without modifying them to fit as they are based on 6X48 base screws.
My answer was to have my QRW bases redrilled for 8X40 screws then even then the only rings that would work were the Burris Z-rings and then just barely.
Either that or get a scope with a longer tube.

A7DaveHow do you like your 2.5x8? I like the small objective bell diameter for low scope mounting.
Is the tube shorter than the usual Leupold scope? I was thinking I'd mount it on a M98 that I put together in 300 WM.

surestrikeI really like my 2.5X8 it is a very usable, clear scope that can be mounted very low to the bore.

Rsm458LottI got the Talleys to work by using M70 bases. It was a very exact fit with no tube left. The QD rings sort of snap onto the bases. The M70 rear base hangs over the ejection port just slightly, but enough to work with the scope.I really like my VXIII 2.5 x 8 with B&C reticle.I think the size, weight and mag. is hard to beat.I killed my last bear and antelope using it.I am also excited about the rifle it shot a .33 factory test target.I am loading up some of the new 150 E-Tips to try now that I have the scoped worked out.The folks at Talley were very helpfull, sending me differant stuff until I found something that worked the way I wanted it to.
